T4 faq - 02.26.2007, 06:26 PM

Hey well I am planning on getting a ft t4 in a few months and was wondering what brushless sytem and all that to get for it so heres some questions.

1.brushless system for racing,I want more power than I need,im using 2s lipo at the moment but i need the motor to be able to handle 3s.
2.Esc, i was thinkin mamba, yay nay?
3.any hopups i should be putting on er?
4.can i see some pics and setups you guys have for your xxxt mf2 or ft t4s?
( im asking the losi because my dad has it)
5.At the track I saw a guy that on his rear tires of his t4 there a small bar looked like on the a-arms swinging over to i think the motor, i may be wrong i just glanced at it, he said it helped a bit and i am wondering what its called and what it does if anyone knows.

Thanks alot, and I figure since I will have alot of questions on this car that I should just start a t4 faq so everyone could ask questions and new people like myself could look in here and pick up a few things.

Welcome to the forums!

1) Mamba max 5700 all the way.
2)Yay.
3)FT T4 should be fine, id reccomend a RPM gear cover, though.
4)Unfortunatly, no pics, i run a FT B4.
5)I think it could have been the AE lead weights, i doubt it though.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the very vague description of the pole, but if it sounds familiar to anyone it would be greatly appreciated if you posted, if not ill just ask the guy next time.

Keep the replies and posts coming!

So far my list is:
1.Ft T4
2.Rpm blue gear cover
3.gt2 arms( yay or nay?)
4.high torque high speed racing servo
5.aluminum idler just for security( the ft doesnt come with one does it?)
6.Blue ball cup thingys, i think there called ball cups? or ball ends?

Thats it for now, any suggestions on brushless motors or should i just get the mm 5700 for racing?
If any other suggestions on upgrades/setup please do chime in.

Thanks,Caine

Definately the Mamba 5700, just because it is so programable. And the front a-arms are knwo for breaking, so yes, I would suggest the RPM gt2 a-arms.

YES A SWAY BAR i remember now he said sway something, thanks so much.
Does anyone know how much these cost and what exactly they do and if they are worth it?

is there a handling difference between the gt2 arms and the graphite ones coming with the ft?( i think they are graphite)brain fart sorry.

The same guy with the sway bar had a small black can he called a resistor that went to the servo and he told me it got more power to the servo.
is this true and how does it do this? does it hook right up to the receiver plug into the servo, i dont know how that would work but thats how he had it.

anything to add to the list?

Probably saw a swaybar... nothing unique to a T4, but rarely used in 1/10 offroad.

I have a FT T4. I just dropped it off today for a buddy of mine to borrow for a big race this weekend... the ChiTown Shootout. I'm not going to make it so he's racing my truck.

I second the MM5700... I have run that in my T4 and it's a great setup for it. Awesome on the track on 6 cells and it will take 3s... it's the only (out-of-the-box) system you can do that with.

Mine has been box stock FT... it really doesn't "need" any mods or hop-ups. But this weekend it will likely get the GT2 front end.... front arms, steering blocks and carriers. I have broke a front arm a couple times on one track layout.

The Losi titanium ballstuds are a nice upgrade. I have them on my B4... haven't put them on the T4 yet. They are pricey at $9 a pair but you won't break them, and they have hex heads so installing/removing them is great.

It doesn't come with an alum idler.... but I've never had a stock one go bad yet. But I haven't run 3s either. ;)

2. whats a ball stud, is i the the little ball you set the ball cap on?

3. ball end and ball cap same thing right?

You guys prolly think its rediculous, but you got to start somewhere.

The ball end and ball cup are the same thing. The ball stud is where you put the ball cup on; it pops right onto it.

alright cool, thanks.
anyone know about the steering block and carrier?
What exactly is a "hub" carrier in rc terms?
it looks like a bearing carrier, its on the rear of the t4 next to the axle stubs.

The steering block is the steering arm that holds the front wheel axles.. and the carrier is the "C" shaped hub that holds the steering arm.
steering block:

carrier, or caster block:

rear hub carrier

You don't need to change out any of these parts... but some are using the GT2 front end parts because they are beefier...

I have run a 5700 with a 3s lipo, but not 2s lipo. On 6 cells NIMH its a handful, on 3s lipo its a scud missle, Its almost totally uncontrolable, make sure you got a big area to run on 3s and a light trigger finger

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

GD, Thats funny, I was going to go check that out on Saturday. No planning on racing, but I was going to swing by out there to check what was going on.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...
