Stampede brushless help. - 03.13.2007, 09:27 AM

Hi my name is Nick I've been a member of this forum for a little while now but dont normally post. I have a Stampede and a E-Maxx both mostly stock. I want to put a brushless setup in the Stampede, this will be my first brushless system and I was wondering which one to go with? I've been looking at the Novak SS5800 and the Mamba Max system. I'm going to keep the truck pretty stock, I'm going to run 6 cell 4200 batteries, the idler will be upgraded and I already have RPM carrier bearings and a RPM front bumper. I'm really looking for long runtimes and decent speed. I'm also looking for help with which gearing to go with.
My next project is going to be a fully built E-Maxx.

Thank you all in advance for any and all help.

Nick

I'd go with the Mamba Max 5700 setup for an inbetween decent speed and enough runtime. Just skip the Novak systems from your list.

Yep, the Mamba Max is the way to go. I think you will be happy with the 4600 or 5700. The 4600 may be a little slow for you, but the run times will be insane, so you may want to go for the 5700 which wil be a mix of both.

As for gearing this is what someone else wrote, would work great on a pede:
Quote:
the sweet spot in a flm pede is 83/15 on 6 and 8 cells
Although yours isn't all aluminum, you can still start here and then change the gearing accordingly.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate the info. I'm sure I will be very happy with the MM 5700 system, thanks again.

I ordered the MM 5700 and steel idler gear today from Mike. Where can I buy the 83/15 new gears and what kind should I get?

Thanks again for all of the help.

i think the pede is already equpied with the 83 tooth spure?(please correct me if im wrong)
scince the pitch is 48, you can find 48 pitch pinions mostly at any hobby store/online..

in that case a 15 toother.

nasty,
don't know if you have and older pede or new. But if it's the old style with the slipper peg clutch, I suggest you go on with the conversion to the updated revo pad-style clutch. This effects which spur you buy. It is absolutely worth it.
And if you can, I suggest at least a 7-cell hump over a 6.
Good luck.....

That sounds like a good upgrade, can I buy these parts all together or do I need to piece them together. Any links available? I have an older Pede.

Thank you all again for the help.

Unfortunately, you have to piece it together. Silly they don't offer a conversion for older pedes but they use a lot of the parts on the Jato and others so it's not Pede specific. Here's the list of stuff from what I recall. Please compare the Traxxas part numbers Tower hobbies gives you against the exploded views from Traxxas website for the new pede to double check me now...or send the list in an email to Traxxas support and make them double check you......and you will either need to punch out the roll pin that's keeping your top gear on the output shaft to re-use, or pick up another top gear from tower.....cheers

hi

i and a colleage of mine also have two pedes that are more or less exactly modded like yours (rpm carrier, bumper, idler). he started off with the 5700 mamba. but it had to be geared quite low otherwise the motor got hot. no probs with the esc. so i bought the 4600 mamba and it works great. he has now also changed to the 4600 motor. but i am sure one can settle things with the gearing.

so far i have not changed the slipper to the newer version. what is nice to change however are the new 2.8 talon tires from the new stampede. after some 20 batteries now i stripped the diff. i guess in the medium run the upgrade aluminium/steel diff here from the shop will be the way to go. otherwise i am totally impressed by the performance of this little truck. it is soo nice to drive and jump like crazy. i have to admit that the stampy that i originally bought as some kind of "backup car" is starting the get my no 1 fun car in the gravel pit. and it sure has some decent competitors :-). it is a challenge to drive because of 2wd but one gets used to it.

btw i had the novak ss5800 in it to start with. that is no comparison to the mamba system when in comes to perfomance. with 6 cells the mamba is very nice with 7 cells the car gets real fast.

bye

This list is very good. I just got an e-mail back from Traxxas and there are two more parts that are needed.

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHFS7&P=7
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDGG3&P=7

Those are all of the parts needed to complete the old Pede to new Pede slipper clutch swap, says Traxxas. Hope this will help someone in the future.
Thanks again guys for all of the help.
