HPI B5 brushless, would like to get opinions - 03.15.2007, 02:01 AM

I want to get mike to do a 5B 1/5 scale brushless conversion for me, I'd like some opinions. I plan to use what i got, so as not to really overbudget myself. I have a 2250 10t lehner, an mg 16024 and up to 10s lipo's that i can hook up. I know that the mgm can't handle 10s, so a max of 8s, if i keep the mgm (looking hard at the new 12032 if i decide to go 10s). I would like opinions on this setup, I can make changes, but since i have these, I'd like to use as much as possible.
I know that the 2250 would be a little overkill, it should be a wicked buggy
thanks in advance for any info

be careful running it 10 cell li-po on the mgm I would normally run 8 cells, but a 10 cell speed run might be ok.it would be cool to see it go I can't wait for video

The current mgm i got is the 16024 which is an 8s lipo max, I was just saying if i decide to try 10s I know i would need a proper controler. Its the older non standard type but at 380 to 450 a pop, I'm sticking with the recomendations of the manufacture. Thank you though

I doubt you want to buy from Fine design, as Mike's work is a million times better, but here is just an example, of what a brushless 5b may look like: (Its at the bottom of the page)

He won't be buying from Fine Design, he is building it himself (I'm pretty sure he is).

Crazy - I'd use as much voltage as possible to reduce the current draw this sucker will pull.

Thats impressive, they used a 3060 in that one. BP you're right, i don't plan to use finedesign, I plan to get mike to design a motor mount and maybe a battery mount for it. I know mike will need the buggy for it, and if i can't find a good roller I'll get mike to get one to build

A 1/5 scale screams for a Schulze 40.160... but if you are like me it's a big deal to commmit to buying a Shulze, let alone a $600 one!

Maybe Chris Fine is improving his stuff, he is using 30c lipo's in the buggy

HA! I'm sure that rating is wrong. Its probably a max burst rating as to where the voltage will drop so low that the LVC will kick in...

Mike now has a custom MGM 12032 controller available.

I was thinking about converting the big HPI the other day. I think a Plettenberg Bolido looks the part for this size. Very interesting motor. Plettenberg is known for high quality motors.

Woo! 5kW=~6.7hp! That's a bit more than the stock gasoline engine...

Yea, it's a beast. Only problem is that it can't run more than 10S. This kind of setup would really benefit from 15S. At 37V it'll take 135A to push 5kw! That's assuming your packs can hold 37V @ 135A...

Oh well. It should kick ass anyway. :)

Any decisions made, crazyjr? I'd love to see one of these buggies converted...

BTW, that Bolido costs $500!

Yeah, not a bad price IMO.

i would go for a 2240 and 8S.

Remember it's 2 wd and much lighter in e form than in Petrol..
