Help me choose a 5s Lipo pack - 04.21.2007, 05:37 PM

I am trying to pick out a 5s lipo pack for my Crt, I have a flightpower 5000mah 22c pack I just receved a few days ago that I am sending back now that I found out that flightpower came out with 25c and 30c packs, I cant decide between a 4500mah 30c pack and a 5000mah 25c pack, I dont think they make a 5000mah 30c pack if they do somebody let me know and I will get it. I cant decide which would be better, or if someone knows of any better packs let me know, btw I am running the neu quark with it
thanks

Which Neu motor are you running on that 5S. 5S is pretty high voltage for a truggy and if you are running a reasonable motor, such as a 1515/2.5d or similar, you don't need the best battery money can buy. After all, one of the major reasons for going with a 5S setup in a truggy is to run a more efficient system that draws less current.

I'm running a truerc 10C 5S2P 8Ah pack in my 13lb truggy with an 8XL and the pack hardly gets warm. The truerc pack was under $200 shipped. You really need to give us an idea of what you current requirements are going to be.

If you simply want the best that money can buy, then flightpower's packs with the highest C rating will be it.

I've got 2x 10c 5s1p 8Ah packs in parallel, and I'm racing my LSP w/ a 1512 2.5d tommorow for the first time, if I can get the battery trays made in time =\. The packs worked great in my 1/8 onroad, but I do worry about the 80a constant rating.. and respectively low peaks, but so far, so good, and they have never gotten above luke warm.

If you have two 5s 10c 8Ah packs in parallel, you have 160A constant rating. 8Ah * 10c * 2 packs...

Do you have two 5S1P 8Ah packs? Or did you mean 5S2P 8Ah packs? Or maybe two 5S1P 4Ah packs run in parallel for 8Ah?

Anyway, running a 1512 2.5d on 5S should be pretty nuts. Do you think that you'll be able to keep it on the track?

I am running the 1515 2.5d, it used to have a 2240 on 8s lipo in it. It will be geared for about 40 mph.

bah fast typing. 2x 4Ah packs, sorry. raced it today, on a very tight parkinglot track.. my sister got some video of it, but watching it.. wow, worst camera-woman in existance :(

motor was getting very hot, as well as the speed controller's heatsinks. I didn't have time to wire up two fans in parallel, to run at ~9v each, and after a 4 minute run, I temped the motor and controller, and they were both around 135 degrees F. I had stripped the spur a little, because the motor moved on me, so I had to go to a larger pinion gear, and because it was running so hot, I threw on some 1/8 buggy tires. it's got alot of power, and traction was limited.. but besides losing two CVD pins, and the 1/2 stripped spur, oh, and the SPARKS shooting out of my Quark to go along w/ the burnt electronics smell (I'm not sure what blew.. but I shut it off, and back on again, and it worked flawlessly the rest of the day..), it was a good day lol.
I'm going to go ahead and order a 46t spur from mike, and try and sell this 1512 2.5d, and get a 1515, to try and keep the temps down.
I've also been taking pictures of my steps as I built this truck, from the quark thermal mod, to video of todays race.. after I get all the pics organized, and type it all up, i'll post a how-to:LSP conversion thread.

Ummm, sparks from any controller is NOT GOOD. Even though it still ran, I would definitely call Quark support and let them know what happened. Chances are you damaged one or more FETs and it'll just be a matter of time before something else has problems. Not to mention that running fewer FETs will cause more heat...

I'm well aware of this.. but, there's no warranty on the controller anymore, so what could they do? I figured I'd run it, and if it finally let out a big puff, that'd be that, and I'd have a shelf queen until the MoMax or Teken's MT controllers are released. Doubt Sky would replace it, seeing as I milled part of the case, and thermal epoxed the fets to a copper shim..

Hmmm, that might be a problem. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask them. Explain what you did and who knows, they might surprise you, or maybe offer a discounted repair fee or something...

What are you asking for the 1512 2.5d?
