New Guy looking for brushless / Revo info -
04.28.2007, 09:15 AM
Hello,
I am building a brand new electric Revo.. I just got a hold of a brand new Revo 3.3 roller. Am I better just converting the existing chassis to electric since it is the 3.3 exteneded chassis? Or should I go ahead with the GorillaMaxx chassis, which I believe is the shorter 2.5 chassis?
Also, my local hobby shop has a Hacker C50 motor and Quark 125 ESC that they are trying to sell me. I am a very smooth driver in stadium truck indoor... what I am NOT looking for is the fastest motor. I run Open Truck, I'm used to that, but what I am looking for is A LOT of Slow and Mid Throttle control. I do not want a setup that works, full throttle and brake. I use a lot of slow and mid-throttle in my driving and need a combo that can give me the Precision that I am looking for. Any suggestions?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

the g-maxx is also extended over the 2.5 chassis.
you can use the stock chassis with mike's 3 piece motor mount for the original transmission.
or hack in a e-maxx trans.
but since you wanna race i recommend using a center diff.
can do that with the nitro trans, there is probly already a diff in there.
(not sure on that as i'm no big traxxas lover)
or with the g3r and the slipperential v2.
bout the motor and esc, the quark is a good choice, smooth, runs any motor, ...
but it needs cooling.
with that quark you can run a neu motor, being 4 pole design they have lots of torque.
a neu will behave nice on partial trottle aswell.
it will be silky smooth.
you want around 2000~2200Kv for 4s lipo,
for 5s lipo you need around 1700Kv.
dont know much about the hacker c50.
oh yeah welcome aboard. have fun on the forum.

If I use the stock chassis... does someone make a battery mount? I am going to use 2 of the TrakPower 7.4 Lipos.
With Neu motor do you suggest?

you would have to make battery mounts yourself.
if you run 4s i suggest a 1512 2.5d/f

Perhaps it's easier to go flightpower 4S 4900's or 5000's. With the stock setup, it's rather hard to make a dual trakpower work. A single pack would be easier. You can stack the trakpowers, but it's harder than a single pack.
With the stock setup it's almost impossible to make a balanced setup (left/right balance)
With the 3.3 they didn't put the servo's further to the front either, so that's not helping you any..

Yeah, that was a dumb move, wasn't it? I mean; the Revo is already rear-heavy, so you'd think they would move the servos to the front!

AFAIK, Vantage only has the CF chassis, which I don't want - plus I don't know of a way to bend some of the parts I'd need to. Do they also make an aluminum chassis the same way?
Do you have a link to the 3r-racing chassis? I'd like a longer chassis, but want the servo up front...

I just took of the servo mount and put the batteries in their place. since you need to do work on a chassis to get the batteries mounted, i don't mind moving the steering servo out of the way.

this is all i could find, but its cheaper aluminum than the traxxas stuff , need to be careful if you need to bend it, mine cracked alittle, maybe should of heated it, but its well worth the money imo, i like mine and its available in a couple diff colors if you look around

So, 3racing is not as good as stock? AFAIK, stock is 3mm thick 6061. What is the 3racing stuff made of? The ebay listing says that it is the better tougher version...
I wouldn't mind the CF version, but I can't make some of the bends I'd like to. And I would think it would wear faster from rocks and stuff. Besides, it's too pretty to get dirty and messed up. :)

The only real problem that I have with CF in things like a chassis is that it doesn't conduct heat very well. I depend on my chassis to help move heat away from what's important.
As far as an "upgrade" for the chassis goes, it would need to be one of two things to be really better. Either thicker or made of something harder, like 7075. 6061 is actually really soft. I did a little test. I held a 1' long 1" diameter 6061 rod at shoulder level and dropped it on the concrete and did this a few times. It dinged the heck out of the 6061. I then did it with a length of 7075 and it hardly dinged at all.
Of course, 7075 costs more and is harder to machine.
