Ok I tried putting a pinion gear on my Nue motor 5mm shaft...

I think the pinion set screw threads where messed up already... I was just screwing it in not evenb tightening it and the treads came out.

What should I do when I get a new pinion.... should I grind a flat spot on the 5mm shaft so the set scre can screw in more?

This sucks cause I wanna try this thing!!!!!!!!!

That happens,i just drill and tap a new hole,some of mine have 3 holes in them by now.If you tap it for a 4mm thread then use a 3mm drill so the threads have plenty of meat this time.

And make the flat spot, I almost did the mistake of not making one. After driving it for 1st time I'm glad I did it :005:

Is a flat spot enough? I've had my shaft's dimpled so the set screw goes into the shaft a little bit...Gotta be real careful to give the right depth before it gets drilled...I would like to use a flat spot but I heard it's not enough with these high power setups.

i made a flat spot but it did not help and pinion slid towards the motor and i spent lovely 30 minutes carefully removing it. Now i have loctite 243 on the set srew and seems to hold nicely.

i have to use Locitite 270 - green - the meanest - to hold drivecup set screws at place. blue 243 had no chance and i skipped red 262 to be safe :)

The flat spot works awesome. It seems obvious now that they need one.

I redrilled the pinion so it works.
