Lehner 1940/7 with ____esc? - 05.29.2007, 02:52 PM

hey all - i have a lehner 1940/7 hi amp motor and have been waiting for the MMM esc. i have a 6.5hv system in my truck now, so i'm in no immediate need to drop the lehner in...although, each day i look at it sitting by itself, the more anxious i get :004:

should i continue waiting for the MMM esc, or... because i can only do up to 4s with the motor anyhow, go with the MM esc? i would have to trek up to my parents place to use my mom's dell laptop to do any updates (i have an apple desktop), which is another pain. the quark controller would be another option, but if i can save $100 and go with the MM esc, i'd be happy.

thoughts? anyone have experiences with this motor and another esc besides a BK?

Being two pole, that LMT should work well with the MM. However, the current it might pull may cause the little MM to heat up. If you have a MM, I would just try it out in slowly increasing speeds to see how it works. An extra cap or two on the power line may not hurt either...

cool... i'll use a rx pack which should help with the heat. if i have to, i'll add a fan...but prefer to gear properly to control heat.

thanks brain - i may have to try the little MM out.

The 1940/7 is sorta high kv @ 2200+, just how many cells are you wishing to run it on? It should be well suited to 4S, and 5S if you want to go nutty. I think it would do really well on a MM.

Def be sure to disable the BEC however.

I'd say the MM should be fine with this motor on 4S. (ubec and maybe fan goes without saying). If you don't gear it too high, I don't see a problem there. I run a 1950 with similar KV and am pretty happy, altough for extended runtimes I'd suggest a lower KV (to keep motor temps lower, temps on the MM have never been a problem for me)

well to get to the 3500rpm sweet spot, it would be between 12 and 14 cells max (just over 12 with my matched packs). i have no need to add more cells than 14, but it's a higher torque motor so i should be able to gear a wee bit higher to get higher speeds (low 40's would be fine with me)... right? then i'd probably be putting a big strain on the esc. i have the strobe with 51t spur and 5 mod1 pinions that range (i think) between 12t and 16t.

i'm running an rx pack for sure.

I have five MM escs and I run them all in 1/8 scale vehicles on 4S with everything from the Feigao 7XL to the 9XL. Heat has never been an issue, and since I added a couple of caps to the power line, the esc temps have gone down even more.

Just don't get to nuts with the gearing. If the MM is overgeared, it will let you know with cogging. Just as a point of reference, I run the 7XL in my buggy with a 12/46 to 14/46 gearing and haven't had any problems with heat on the esc.

I am running a 1940/7 in my emaxx on a BK 12020 with alot of sucess. The Bk controller and the Lehner motor work really well together. I run it on 5s also with no motor heat issues. The gearing with standard maxx diffs is at 16/51 on 6.125" Mammoth ST 40 series tires and that is the tallest gearing I can run in grass without overheating the esc, but at this gearing it will runn all day. On pavement I could go higher but its already over 50pmh on pavement and around 47mph ingrass so that is plenty fast.

That 1940/7 is just about my favorite motor. It pulls really hard and has a ton of torque. Easilly lifts the front tires at 30mph. On 5s its a silly setup. I just got done tearing up another rear diff so I just installed the UE diffs and I'm now planning to run 20/51 on 5.7" tires. That calculates out to the same overall gear ratios and the old setup, but the tires are narower and lighter so it should be easier on the system.

All I can say is great motor. You are gonna love it. And if your up for some kicks, dont hesitate to throw 5s at it. It will take it all day long.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

sweet... thanks again guys. jhautz, i knew she packed some power but i had no idea it could push it that fast! it's great to know it'll take up to 5s with no problems too (although the most i'll probably push through it is 4s. but who knows!)

hmmmm.... gotta scrounge that change outta the couch cushions for the rest of the UE stuff...
