Just Thinking - 06.10.2007, 10:20 PM

I went to my LHS races today as i usually do and i see the monsters race and i keep wanting to get mine running. i was thinking that i want to get my maxx running as soon as passable. Because i need lipos(260) charger and supply (230) and motor ubec and extras (300) it is going to be a while. so i was thinking i wanted to get an HV system "TEMPORALLY" so i can race with some stick packs and use the charger i have to race for a while until i can collect enough money from my job to buy the other stuff. If i would do this i have a few questions.

1.) Which motor should i get 4.5 or 6.5 you guys know my setup (HB diffs, lots of ALU, single speed, FLM, gmaxx arms MIP CVDS and 40 series tires) -I was thinking 6.5 to help with heat and runtime.
2.) is it OK to use 40 series tires on the 4.5(highly doubt it) or 6.5
3.) what kind of spurs can i use and pinions. -can i use the strobe or a revo spur (HRS) and what size pinions i want to get the most speed i can by keeping th pinion low so this means i want to go down as low as i can in spur.
4.) How is this motor for cogging and performance (i know it is defiantly not as good as a quark and Neu or Lehner, but really how is it as just for general driving and mild racing.
5.) If i do get a temp motor and ESC combo i will just get this or weight i want something i can just plug in and go. SO even though the mm and a Feigao would be cheaper i just want something very simple that will last me a month or two, plus i have a friend that wants this motor so i get rid of it easer.

(please people who have this motor chime in so all i don't get is everybody trying to convince me how bad it is) Thanks

i would say the 6.5, 40s are fine but heavy, its sensored so it will not cog(i think), dont know on the gearing

I don't know. Do what you have to do to get running. As for the tires, I've never been crazy about running the 40 series tires in a race environment. They are much heavier than standard size maxx tires and what I really don't like about the heavier tires is the adverse way that they affect runtime, the stress on the brushless system and increase the unsprung weight of the vehicle. I think that you'd be better of with a good set of MTR bowties or holeshots.

Just get the MM an 8XL and a cheap $15 UBEC. It'll have you up and running and it'll be a better setup than the Novak IMO and cheaper.

After you run it you might just get 4s Lipo and stay with it. Its a very decent setup.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

i had the 6.5 system, and it worked like a champ. no cogging at all - i could go from a 2 mph crawl as smoothly as gunning it from a stop to WOT. it only gets a 12 lb rig (w/batteries) up to about 32 mph on novak's recommended gearing of 70/12 on 7 cells, but temps with that weight and gearing was about perfect. a strobe won't work unless you can find a mod1 spur with a lot more teeth than the stock 51t. using that risks overheating the system (heck, i almost overheated mine going a couple pinion teeth up). you may be able to get away with 70/13 on 7 cells, if your ambient temps are moderate. i think i was getting speeds around 34 mph on that gearing.

i know a few here have used hv systems with there revo conversions (and revo spur) what kind of pinion did they use to mach up with the revo pinion. Also did you use a heatsink on the motor and a fan on the esc Clod.
