can i use the single speed coupler in the stock tranny? is so has any one tried this and how did it work , just would like to save some money now and get this goinghttp://gorillamaxx.com/ itsat the bottem of the page and its cheap, thanks

Yes you can. It replaces the dog gear.

To save some more weight, remove first gear and mod it so the only thing left is the hub. This will act like a spacer.

If you use the drivedog, and remove the 1st gear (output, input and idler, so three gears can be removed) you also need a spacer to hold the output shaft in place. I used a nylon tube i had, i also removed the unused gear on the inputshaft.

Some pics just for reference too. Like has been said, you remove the output gear for 1st and the dog thingy & shifter fork, then after removing the bearing, the coupler simply pushes into the face of the 2nd gear output gear, locking it. I locked mine into first due to needing lots of torque.
