How to solder a dual input, single output deans connector/All-Battery Review - 06.25.2007, 02:53 AM

Hey guys, as you know me from around these forums I am just getting into this whole 1/8 scale brushless, and am currently setting up my Revo for use with 12 cells. When running pretty much any esc, you only have one input battery connector to work with, unless you modify it, and basically ruining the warranty. The Mamba Max ESC which I am planning on running can handle 12 cells under the warranty, and that is what I am starting out with. Some people would say run a 12 cell pack, that works but I do not have a charger for a 12 cell pack, so why not just run 2 6 cell packs to make-up for it? This allows me to more evenly distribute them and charge them individually.

Deans connectors are among the highest in performance and are relatively cheap, at $3.99 for a pack of two females, the value is amazing considering the advantages over tamiyas. I chose deans for my adapter, which I will run for all of my batteries and mamba max input connector.

Here is a video (split) that I just made on how to create an adaptor using two male plugs and one female, which will act as the 12 cell battery input connector. I used 14 awg deans wire, 2 male plugs, and one female plug. I also used deans silver solder.

Now I will give a quick summary of all of the above.

Tamiya to BEC and Hitec: This adapter allows you to use the female tamiya plug in such applications when charging something like a RX (Reciever) Pack for a R/C vehicle. This is the most common, the RX pack powers the vehicles onboard servos.

Hitec Male Connectors: These Hitec connectors are very common in the R/C world as far as plugs for Reciever packs. These plugs are for the most part, universal. Pretty much any radio will accept these connectors, because of their basic layout. These can be very easily soldered onto your RX pack, especially since they already have solder on the wires when you buy them.

BEC Connectors: These are the other main connector for use in RX packs. These are more of a "generic" connector, and are included with most stock battery trays in nitro vehicles. These also come with pre-tinned leads for easy soldering.

Deans Female Connectors: These are the upgrade to standard Tamiya plugs on a battery pack. Female connectors are for batteries, and the male goes on the recieving end. Deans provide low resistance, durability, and ease of soldering.

Deans Male Connectors: These are the upgrade to standard Tamiya plugs on a recieving end, such as an ESC (Electronic Speed Control). Deans provide low resistance, durability, and ease of soldering.

Deans Micro Connectors: These are also a common upgrade to standard white micro connectors, but these are more for use on low drain rate batteries, such as on 1/18 scale (2/3a cells) that are not trying to power high amperage systems such as brushless.

6mm Bullet Connectors: These are the BEST connectors as far as high drain connectors. 6mm are the thickest out as of now that I am aware of, just passing by the popular 5.5mm connectors. These are mainly used on systems where you have ESC to motor connections, like on a brushed or brushless setup.
