keep on killing spur gears!! AHH!! - 09.04.2007, 01:16 AM

so my revo with the emaxx trany keeps on burning through the spur gear... like it has so much rotational mass which causes heat absorption and the spur take the dissipation(i was trying to sound smart like ytou guys... howd i do?!?!?)

anyways ya so i killed another spur... what do i do? go for a steel spur then get harnened pinions?

thanks for any help!

The same thing happened when I would break to hard on my buggy going full speed. Make sure that the gear mesh is set correctly, and if it still keeps on stripping, maybe time for a hardened pinion and steel spur gear.

i think im just gonna go with that. harnded steel and steel spur. its only a 30 dollar upgrade so its not too big of a deal. and how long do you think this would be? or would it even change?

Are you just stripping it? If that's the case, you need to upgrade to Mod1 if you don't have a Strobe already, or set your mesh better. Outside of that, unless your slipper is locked and won't slip, you shouldn't be stripping them.

Wow, you need to at least upgrade to a Robinson slipper since it looks like you're using 32P gearing. Also, you may have it set too loose as well. You're burning them up from it slipping too much.

Your slipper setting is too loose. The problem is that when it slips it heats up and it the center goes out of round. when that happens the gear mesh is altered and the teeth strip. Put all 12 pegs in the new spur and tighten up the nut almost all the way. I usually back it off about 1/4 turn from full tight and test lightly to see if I need any more. I would also say to replace the nut every couple of times you remove it as the nylon portion does wear out.

I have a Kippster slipper if your interested. Its like a Strobe, but it uses the RRP spurs instead of Ofna spurs. That way you wouldn't have to go to mod1.

That looks like your mount may be flexing on jumps or whatever which either jams the pinion against the spur, or reduces the mesh so that only the tips of the two gears are touching. The plastic set works well as long as the mesh is set correctly and consistent.

Moving to steel on steel is simply masking the problem IMO.

and consistent... words that i do not knwo well.

right now i just went out for a run and the truck did AWSOME! i am using a 66t and it still has a HUGE amounts of wheelies...also has alot of rollovers. i am uing a 90t rocker in the rear. and it is alot higher than the front. is this why i am flipping so much? i had a 120 in the rear and switching to a 90 helped a good bit but still it is not doing so well. anything i can do to help?

so after a 20 min run (speed runs, messing around in the dirt and grass) the final temps were esc 140 motor 170 batts 125 it would be nice to get the motor down a bit.. but i am not complainning considering it is 115 outside... would going with a higher pinion help?

also when i floor it,reverse it, or give it some brakes the truck makes this horrible sound like i just hit 2 rocks together or something... i cant explain it. weird thing is that when i am WOT it doesnt make it. if i slowly give it some throttle it doesnt make it. id get a video of it but my camera broke.. anyone know what i am talking about?

so im about to charge my batts and just like last time they might be at different percentages or use. last time i was stupid and charged on and not the other so one was at 0% while the other 17... this time i charged both to 95% and used them at the same time in the same truck...(this is all i will be using them for for now on) and i was wondering where to get a 4s adaptor for the lba10 so i can charge them at the same time so i know they are balanced together.

pmed ya bout the kippster slipper.

thanks for all your help!

a diff is going to break, soon, i use all 12 pegs and tighten the hell out of the slipper so there is no slip, I also use washers before and after the spring to get rid of the traxxas wobble
