Dual Brushless? - 09.04.2007, 03:14 PM

Anyone tried a dual brushless setup on a e-revo with Emaxx trans?

I have a couple of mm and now run dual 3s2p lipo's so could buy another 9XL - just wondered if had been done and what difference anyone thought it would make.

Cheers

You can, but for the price and complexity, it's best just to use a single larger motor. A 9XL on 16 cells or 5s is already pretty crazy torque. Two of them would REQUIRE 8th scale diffs and a solid wheelie bar. Kinda like putting a V12 1,000HP engine in a Ford Escort. : )

If you want better performance, I'd go to a Neu 1515 motor...

Even tho it would haul and look very cool, it would be better to do one motor. Also cause the diffs. Just put a lehner 2230 on 6s!

SSSconcepts will testify that his dual MM Emaxx was impossible to drive pretty much, so a single good quality motor like a neu would be far better- unless you are insane, in which case..... : D

Wasnt he running two 5700 on 3s each? Was he having any problems with heat? What speed was he getting to?

He was I believe, which is a bit crazy, but he already had one 5700 system so just bought another to match; the lower kv motors (4600?) would have been better on 2 or 3s, but you rarely see this dual BL trucks anywhere (except JonnyMaximer's, and that was dual 7XLs!)....

There doesn't appear to be any results if this actually happened...

I have the mamba's and good Lipo's (dual 3s2p 20c 4200 Maxamps)...

Anyone want to sponsor an extra 9XL and a pinion? Mike any deals?

I'm just assuming I'm going to get wilder acceleration rather than top speed...

Anyone have an opinions on trying this? Don't want to waste $100 - thx

Well I would go with 6s and 12xl or something. But the mamba cant handle it. Maybe (stack) the the mambas, to make a 200 amps con. MM!

Well, each 3s2p pack is capable of 84A continuous. I think using them together should be more than enough. You have two choices though: 1) Run a 3s2p pack per MM/motor or 2) charge and balance each sop they are exactly the same level and run both in parallel for 3s4p total (168A) and Y that pack to both MMs. This assumes each pack has seen close to the same use and cycles and age.

You gotta figure each pack is good for ~900w. Two packs should be good for ~1800w. That's 2.4HP.

Sounds like a project in the making... This is a cheap price for US - Anyone bought from there?

http://www.superfastrc.com/feigao-5408409xl-.html

Should I expect top end improvement or just massive acceleration?

I currently charge and balance both packs so they are close and then y them.

Cheers - Thanks for help

No experience with that store, but when you buy from Mike, you know he will stand behind it.

You should have both top end and acceleration. Although a 9XL on 3s is only ~20k rpm, but the fact that you are running two should allow you to gear up to compensate. Personally a pair of 8Ls would probably be a better match rpm-wise, but you already have one 9XL...

I know I like mike's stuff but he doesn't sell the Feigao XL's and the 30 difference will help towards a mike H/S and pinion.

I run 24/65 so already gear about as high as i can go :(

Actually thinking about it I have a 7L Wanderer 3168kv in my rustler - Could they pair up at 3s?

That would be ~35krpm. Should be ok, and you won't have to gear as high.

Can I mix with a Feigao 5407L ? Are they rated the same?

PS Just found a funny - They have the shaft size wrong! Wonder how long that has been there!
