Last weekend I took my brushless buggy and truggy out to the local track. The ambient air temp was hot (108 degrees) even for Socal. I had a converted Kyosho Kanai 2 with a Feigao 8XL, Maxamps 4s2p 6000mah, MM, UBEC and 46/13 gearing. The truggy was a converted CEN Matrix TR Arena, Feigao 8XL, TrueRC 4s2p 8000 mah, MM, UBEC and 46/11 gearing. The buggy ran fine all day, temps never got over 150 degrees on the ESC or moto. The truggy was running hot, I have a spektrum telemetry unit with it set to vibrate at 180 degrees. After 5 laps the Spektrum started to vibrate, as I brought in the truck it thermal'd and came to a stop. When I got to it the temps were very close to 200 degrees on the motor and 220 degrees on the ESC. After a cool down, I tried to run the truggy and no go, I checked the ESC and found that one of the wires (white one) had come unsoldered I assume from the high temps. After cooling, I reattached the wire and the truck ran fine. But it still ran hot so I am going to retire the truggy and move all the hardware to my Brushless Revo which is a few pounds lighter and see how it works out. The truggy is a bit heavier but I had it geared down and yet it ran way hotter than the buggy. Just for future reference any ideas why the truggy ran so much hotter than my buggy?
