truggy conversion - 09.11.2007, 04:12 PM

I'm doing a lightning stadium pro to brushless,
Do I remove the machanical brakes, and the linkage, also is the only servo I need for the steering? Any other tips would be great!
Thanks
Tom

truggy conversions are pretty straight forward, especially those for which Mike makes a mount.

You could keep the mechanical brakes, but I've found them to be unnecessary. Motor braking has been more than adequate in all of the conversions that I've done. The only servo that I use is the steering servo. I use the JR Z9000T in my trucks and the S version is the smaller conversions.

A Neu 1515/1Y on 4S lipo with a Compro 16018 controller should be a nice setup for you. For something a bit milder, you could go with a 1515/2.5d on 4S for usual running with a backup 5S pack for nuttier speeds.

I was going to go with a NEU 1515/2y with MGM 16024. I'm not sure what cell lipo would be ideal for this combo though.

Go for 7s is using the 1515/2y. Even then, motor rpm will only be ~28500. Personally, I'd use the 1515/1.5y on 7s or the 1515/2.5d on 6s.

Brian, I see that you've gone past your more conservative stage.

The 1515/2.5d on 6S lipo will be crazy nuts powerful. Mine on 5S still impresses me.

Yeah, especially on the Neus. On the XL, I would never go over 33-35k rpm. 30k is a wee on the low side, but doable.

I figure nitro motors spin anywhere between 35-45k rpm, so if a BL motor can spin close to that, the truck will have the high speed AND diff grinding torque that a nitro simply cannot match.

Also, using more common "nitro" gearing helps pinion selection. You can only gear so high (or low) before getting a pinion that'll work is a PITA.
