Need a motor - RC-Monster Forums

Well i got word last night that my jammin buggy convesion is finished . Dan at rcproductsdesign used my buggy to make a kit for the jammin buggy. So im looking for a motor. I have recived several different suggestions. Lxmuff suggested 1512-1.5d or a 1512-2d, he said there is very little if any cogging with these two. Ron or (waterdog49) suggested a 1512-1.5y or a 1512-3d. He said if i used a Y wind they have a wider efficancy range than the d motors. I have also had a suggestion to use a plettenberg maxximum. I would be using flightpower 4s 5000mah lipo's & a MM or quark . Ron also said if i ran one of the motors he suggested the motor would be running a lot closer to it's sweet spot, than some of the other NEU motors, & that i would'nt have to choke the motor buy running a smaller pinion,like you have to on some of the other NEU motors.

I would be happy wih 35 mph. I used brian's calculator with the 1512-1.5y & a 15t pinion i can get 35. With the other motors listed i can get well over 35 mph.

I have the 1512 1.5Y 1900kv... and I think it ran 40mph on 4s and 16/46 but I'd have to do some digging to find out for sure.

I know that it's faster than a nitro buggy on that gearing... and they normally can do high 30's

One nice thing about the lower kv motors is that (hopefully) someday the MMM and other new escs will finally be here and I can try 5s or 6s. I have room to "grow" with them... but then I might just want an even lower kv for 6s... for racing anyway.

For a buggy and track running, the 1512/1.5Y or 2.5d are hard to beat for 4S and are downright wicked on 5S.

Well i just did my first test run with my 1950-8t hi amp. i must say the motor is very very smooth with my 9920 esc. the temps after 8-10 min of running in front of my apt. the esc was 120, the motor 125, & the FP lipo was 96. So far im happy with it. im running a 15/46 gear & the speed looked good. I'll have to take it to the track to see if it needs more gear. I was not using the rc- monster heat sink. The 1950 feels smoother than my 9XL with the same esc on both motors.

Make sure you seal your 9920. I burnt my 3695 after running it in a baseball field. My friend at Flextronics said, "It is amazing what a few little rocks do to electronics." It was funny how he said it though. I think the same issue happened with my Quark which was running fine, but when I went to another baseball field it went up in smoke. I also saw a video in youtube of a Japanese guy who made a battery using what it looked to be stone that he ground using a coffee grinder (free energy). BTW This is not an issue with controllers that uses conformal coating.

Well i ran my 1950 again today. This time i used a novak HV heatsink & some compound. The temps were really good in my opinion. the motor temp was 125 & the heatsink was 118. so the difference was always 10 degrees or less. Usually the difference was closer to 5 or 8 degrees difference between the can & heatsink .Thats pretty good i think.
