Revo gearing question - 10.14.2007, 03:59 PM

I'm in the process of ordering all of my parts for a Revo 3.3 brushless conversion. I have decided to use the stock Revo tranny and chassis and order the motor mount from Mike.

It looks like I need a mod1 5mm pinion to use with the Revo tranny spur. I'm using a MM esc, Feigao 9XL, and 4S. Could someone give me a heads up on which pinion to order, or at least a good starting place. They are too expensive to order alot of them just for trial and error.

I posted this in the Revo section but just got alot of drive-by's.

Mine:

Sons:
BL E-Maxx
4S MA 4000 Lipo/MM ESC
Feigao 9XL 22/54 gearing
Gmaxx single speed

Try using the Parameter Solver to figure out the size enter everything there but the pinion size the speed and size of your Lipo's will determind the size.

i don't think he's worried about the speed. from the sounds of it, he wants to make sure he's not over straining any of the components by being over or under geared.

there's really only a small window of possibilities for each motor / ESC / battery combo you have.

as more me... i'm honestly wondering the same question. i have a 16 tooth pinion, with the 36, 38, and 40 tooth spurs. once i get my revo moving again, i can't wait to test them out to see which is best.

you might try the same thing... 14-16 tooth pinion, is a good start methinks.

nothing in the garage right now... another revo on the way, prolly

A 20 tooth gives me 40mph on the calculator with the 38 tooth spur and normal gear ratio.

This should give me a good starting point.

Just want to step in here and say that if you are having trouble finding a spur and/or pinion combo that works, you can also do a little tuning to the tranny ratio by going with the narrow, standard, or wide ratio gearset options. These don't affect first gear, but that's a moot point since I assume you'll be locking into second gear anyway. Also, those optional ratios are probably a little cheaper than changing pinions...
