HPI Phaltline tires & blast wheels -
10.17.2007, 07:20 PM
I read some of you guys have these tires & wheels. Does anybody know how much they weight? I'm looking at these really nice tires that look good but cant find any info about their weight! Has my name implies i'm pretty anal about weight on my maxx so I dont want to buy these for nothing. The only info on their weight is in the shipping weight info and I sure hope that wasn't right because it adds up to 350g for one set of wheel & tire...
any help would help
thanks

The only info that I have been able to find on tire weight is this:
http://www.myrcbox.com/misc_tires_comparaison.htm
I don't know how accurate it is.

I have a brand new set of Blast wheels and Phaltline tires here.
Each tire/rim weighs 9.1 ounces or 257 grams each.

What kind of tires/rims are you running and how tall/wide are they?
Lighter is almost always better

These tires might be kinda heavy, but the traction they give is just awesome. But because of the very thin sidewall, I don't think these tires/wheels would take jumps very well at all. My high-speed BL Savage runs these tires/wheels, and although I did do the gluing job HPI didn't, they have held up VERY well to high speed. And I must repeat, they give EXCELLENT traction.

Sikeston,
I have a pair of revo response tire and rims, these weight 190g and a pair of hpi agressor tires that I use for bashing but they have a lot of roll... so I wanted the hpi phaltline for road only but a bit heavy, but I cant find anything lighter with low profile tires that are good for the road. anybody have something low profile for the road that is lighter than 257g each?
thanks guys

look for some Panther komodo(sp?)LP. may have to gear up a little, but they do have a low profile and should be light.

If I had a decent scale i would weigh my panther maxx slicks, but I doubt they would be lighter than the phaltlines any way. You could use 1/8 buggy wheels, then your lightweight onroad tire selection would be pretty extensive. Or you could drill some 12mm hexes out to fit your 6mm axles and use jato wheels and anaconda tires.
For onroad use, smaller wheels and tires are better in almost every way, you just need to decide how important the monster truck look is for your maxx.

thanks B15, the panther slicks actually weight 200g without the rims so no weight advantage there. :O( I do have some 1:8 buggy wheel and tires and my maxx is a mad maxx machine with that combo but I dont really like the look plus it feels like i'm cheating with those wheels...cause not really a maxx like that... lol
Working on:
Twin CF GorillaMaxx (8S motors on 2x2slipo)
2WD AL. GorillaMaxx (7lbs with batteries)

Speaking of Phaltline tires, would you guys recommend taping them? I'm thinking about getting some with black HPI Tremors.
I have taped Road Rage 40 series in the past and that seems to work good-didn't know if I had to though just wanted to prevent ballooning. I'm runnin 4 and 5s in a Losi 8T. These are mounted on black wabash rims

Honestly, you could buy the premounted tire/rim combos. And then get some Kevlar wire or high strength fishing twine and make wraps around the outside of the tires in the grooves, then CA glue them to the rubber. Then take a dremel and cut a groove in the middle of the tread and do the same. 3 twine wraps total.
This method has driven Over_revO's Revo to 91.2mph.

I would not recommend the pre glued ones, the HPI glue job sucks. If you are doing less than 50mph, you probably don't need to tape them.
