can anyone repair, caps, on MM esc - 10.31.2007, 02:28 PM

Well I bought a used mamba max esc and when I got it one of the caps looks like a dog chewed on it and smoke comes from it.... So I am needing it repaired and better caps added for higher voltage is there anyone here on the board that can do this for me? that has a good reputation

That bites that you got ripped off. I think your best bet is to send it in to castle to get fixed.

Bigger caps do not equal higher voltage handling capability. That's set by the type of FETs that are used. Send it to castle and get it fixed right.

Sorry to hear about your raw deal, dude.

If you can open the case & possess a good iron, it is simple enough to replace the caps with suitable ones yourself; but only if you are confident- dont think about it if you are even the slightest unsure. Castle will fix that for the standard fee I would have thought- $25 isnt it?

GriffinRU could perform his stage 1mod on it for about $50 or so... (better caps of the same voltage rating to improve cooling and reduce voltage sagging under load).

Castles maximum fee is $50, even if its BBQ. I would be surprised if its cheaper for just that...

Based on personal experience, Ii you are going to run ANY brushless motor on a mm (except a tiny one!) Griffinru's mods will make a huge improvement in startup and overall heat management. I ran a 7xl on a stock mm and a modded mm and the stock one had to have a fan to work and even then it got hotter than the modded mm did with out a fan. I ran the modded mm thru 2 packs back to back (at least 40mins) and it did not get over 140f. Well worth the $50 or so he charges. I currently have 2 mm that I sent him to mod and will run them both on 7xl motors in two new vehicles that I am converting.
