Looking for a speed controler for Neu 1515/1D motor - 11.07.2007, 01:26 AM

G'Day, I have decided to go for a Neu 1515/1D motor to install in my Jato.

It is runing 33T Pinion and 54T Spur.

At the moment it has the speed controler that came with catle creations 5700 motor.

The Neu motor is staying cool with this gearing but the castle creations speed controler is getting too hot.

So the question is what is a good speed controler to get for this Neu motor?
I am only running Maxamps 8000mah 11.1V Lipo.

I don't really want an expensive one,
just one that has a safe 9V cut off for the Lipo,
One that eliminates reverse,
and can vary the amount of breaking.

So if anyone has any ideas on a good speed controler for this motor and has these settings ( fairly chaep) as it is only for bashing it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't think you will find one "cheep" because the Neu motors are 4-pole. Quark and MGM are the only ones I can sugest. And they are $250-$300.
Good luck

I would reconsider your motor choice first of all. A 1515, no matter which Kv. will be way too much for a Jato, I will guarantee you that. Go for a 1509 size Neu motor, and you can use a Quark Competition esc.

Thanks for the info.

I already have the 1515/1D Motor.
It has plenty of power for the Jato plus a bit more.
I just like them a tad over powered for the fun of them.

Any Ideas on which one of the Quark or MGM controlers would be a good choice for this setup? ( I don't want anything fansy)
As I am still a bit new to all of this and haven't really had anything to do with these controlers.

Thanks.

Are you using an external bec with the mamba max? That could help cool it down a little bit. Maybe a fan as well if you wanted.
It does sound like a fairly overpowered car, and maybe your $280 motor needs more than a cheap controller.

yea it is a tad over powered.

But any information on which type of Quark or MGM controlers would be greatly appreciated.

I have found these two

I am not sure if they will be ok with the above setup.
Any more infomation appreciated.
thanks.

I would try a Mamba Max. The Jato is so light, it's not likely you will get any cogging or hesitation. I run a 1515 1.5D/F in my MBX5T and MBX5. The truggy has a little stutter, while the buggy does not.
The 1515 in a Jato is just WAY overkill....WAY overkill. The MM will work.

A 1515 in a Jato?!?! The 1515 is something people put in 10-15lb monster trucks/truggies, not a 4lb 2wd ST.

I hope you plan on metal tranny parts made! Have fun trying to get the power to the ground with that kind of power. At the very least, you'll be able to gear up as high as you want for truly insane speeds.

I agree with Brian. But if you are so set on it, then get the Quark 125b, or use the MM you already have with an external UBEC.

The Quark 125B or the MGM 160 amp 18 cell. They are both the same price $275 here in the RCM store. Good luck.

I suggest you sell Neu and pick up a Mamba motor and controller for about the same money and be done with it. The 1515 is too much to even have fun with in a Jato. It wouldn't be driveable. I can barely keep my 10 lb crt in control with it.

Na the Mamba maxx motors are too small for high gearing.
I have already destroyed the magnet in the mamba 5700 motor.

I might give on of the Quark 125B or the MGM 160 a go.
These shouldn't over heat should they?

The MGM 16018 shouldn't over heat and should run stone cold. But the 125b tends to have a heat problem... So many members here have done a heat mod to it. Those who have done it will have more to say on it.

thanks for the info.

Do the MGM 160 run hot at all?

What sort of price is the MGM 16018.
I had a look for it here but it wasn't listed.
