lol - and this is on an r/c hobby site, in the pre-sales section.... why?

to answer your question, nothing will work except one thing: willpower. there is no trick.

i just quit 2 months ago after smoking a pack a day for 10 years. i tried numerous times, unsuccessfully... until now. my mind is made up that i'm done, for good. i've tried all the tricks, too.

for me, the patch helps. it's not a solution... just assistance... to my willpower. but your mind needs to be made up that you're done for good first - or it won't work. pure and simple.

good luck!

Yep, its willpower and realizing that nicotine is one of the worst drugs out there, far more hazardous than other things that are illegal. I'd tried to quit many times but and was unsuccessful until one day I just snapped and realised that I was actually addicted like a crackhead needs crack...Ended up quitting cold turkey and have been smoke free for 3+ years now, I'm mentally and physically stronger as a result.

Determination. - 11.15.2007, 06:21 AM

Yep you guys are right. The bottom line is that you have to make up your mind that enough is enough. Until you make that determination that you have had it with the whole idea of smoking nothing will change. And you are correct, there is no magic about it. Smoking is just plane bad for you all around. It stinks up the place, it ruins your clothing, your car, your furniture, and your health. You will finally be happy to know what food really taste like. Then think about all of the money you are wasting on smokes that you could be using for RC gear. For what you spend on smoking every year you can probably purchase a whole lot of RC "Hop-Ups", Brushless electronics, or even Lipo battery packs for high power electric speed.

So make up your mind and don't give in to the temptations ever again. Most of the people that I have seen quit successfully have quit cold turkey because they just made the decision enough is enough. Good luck with that.

thats true about will power, but let me tell you there is a magic pill out now. its called chantix(sp?). i used it and was a non smoker in a month's time. i didn't talk myself into quiting and i've tried many other things and always kept smoking. i rather enjoyed smoking, but that pill made it easier. my wife works at a hospital and almost all the staff that smoked has quit using chantix.

I recently fell off the wagon. I have smoked for 20 years, quit countless times for a week, month, even 6 months couple time, but I always seem to falter when the stress builds up. 3 weeks ago I hit that stress wall and with no other way to manage the stress I started smoking again...... I really need to find a career that I'm passionate about, then maybe the little things would not get to me.

We feel your pain and we all know there are tough times to overcome. That is the toughest thing anyone trying to quit has to avoid. I don't know how long you went without getting to that point, but if you do pretty well for at least a month or so maybe you could try a new approach. When the stress seems to be getting you to that point have a phyical theorpist contact on the hook that you can get right in to see and have a good one hour massage. The money you would spend will be well worth NOT smoking over the length of your lifetime. You just have to find another way of relieving your stress that is easy for you and your wallet.

I quit a pack+ a day habit years and years ago - there are no easy answers, you need a few good friends - use them as a support group so when you're close to caving, you can call one/see one and get past that weak point. Let these people know how important this is to you and have them ask when they see you and offer their support. Don't shoulder this by yourself, get some help/support. You;ll be surprised how much a word or comment at the right time can help you.

Its been long enough for me I no longer get the craving. You can do this, your health is worth the effort. Good luck!!

Wow, this is a tough crowd lol. It hasn't even been 24 hours since they originally posted.

I just wanted to throw in my $0.02 and mention that I also quit smoking 6 months ago using (the magic pill) Chantix. It made it so easy to quit. Which is why I registered with this forum today, my wife is going to let ME spend some of the money WE are saving since I quit. It has been many many years since I have been involved with RCs so I will be asking a lot of Qs.

Thanks
Rob

...or if you're trying to quit being a lego fanatic!!

in all seriousness, welcome rob! i was into electric r/c's about 12 years ago, was into it for a couple of years and then took a good 8 year hiatus... but i got back into it when i saw how far technology has come... and now i'm hooked over 2 years later! they're soooo much more fun now!!!

smoking would be cheaper though. tee hee. j/k.
