new in the world of electrics, just a few e-revo questions - 11.30.2007, 02:27 PM

ok guys i know there are alot of e-revo threads out there but i have not found one that will answer this question. I have looked at some of setups out there for a e-revo, and they are using 8000mAH 4s lipos and getting 15-20 min run times. and other setups are using the same batteries and getting 45-to and hour run times. How is this possible?? And how do i build one that will run that long?? cuz if im gonna spend that much on batteries i want to run for awhile on them....But i also want to go at least 40-45mph... is that possible???

There are a number of factors that can attribute to runtime; gearing, weight, drivestyle, terrain, etc.

Are you sure that both setups are using 4s 8Ah lipos? Because if one uses a 4s pack, and the other uses a 2s or 3s pack, there is a substantial difference.

It takes power to run these. Power is current X voltage. If you run lower voltage, you will need higher current to create high power. Higher current reduces runtime. Running a higher voltage setup requires less current for the same power, so runtime increases.

Brian is exactly right

Just to add in I saw a HUGE gain in runtime by going to a 10xl over my 8xl. Yes it is slower but the runtime is worth it for what I do(I just play around in my yard and at local construction sites)

I think it is obvious that even if a group of people were to race each other with the same truck on the same track that there are a hundred different combinations that can be set up on that one truck, such as gearing, tires, transmission, power (batteries), weight, speed controller, and finally the radio gear.

The only way to have a truly fair compitition is for each vehivle to be set up exactly the same way, such as they do in NASCAR races. Every set up will have different results because they are just not the same. So if we are all looking for the ultimate vehicle and setup with our own vehicle things will always be a little unfair when it comes to competing on the track or in our own backyards and driveways. Our vehicles are as different as we are from each other. Such is life.

Well, given a lower budget, an 8 - 9xl motor running 4s 500mah lipos thru the Mamba max es shouldd get you about 30mins, f you keep your gearing at or slightly under 40mph. This would be driving at different speed while bashing, not wide open run up and down the street.

5000s

I wouldnt make my own packs becuase when lipos short out its very very bad.

if your after runtime and weight isnt a huge factor go for some true rc 8000s they underate their packs and there pricing is very good.
