Basic Revo conversion question -

Hello,
Fun as it is, a brand new Rustler VXL didn't change my mind: I still want to build an e-Revo by late winter (unless Traxxas comes out with a decent e-Revo of their own before that!).
I've read a LOT of threads and seen a lot of videos of the conversions. But I have a few basic questions left:why do so many ppl change so many things on the Revo when they make the conversion? I know everything nitro has to change: so new motor and ESC.
But why change the transmission? Why lock it in 2nd gear even if you have more than enough power? Why change the servos?
I've read many conversion threads talking about changing those things. Why?
