Higher voltage servos are the way forward for performance. I'm currently using a BEC Pro with my MMP in my Ve8, with the BEC output at 9.5V - lovely servo will do 12V, but Spektrum Rxs won't be happy...

Yes it does - I had to reverse the direction for my Ve8 - I'm using the Tekin T8 and MMP. Just reverse motor direction using Castle Link and you'll be set.

No chance - it isn't attached to the centre diff - it's a motor plate, with the screws going through the chassis - like half an engine mount.
