Transmission Pro's/Con's..........(E-Revo) - 10.01.2007, 08:05 PM

What are the pro's and con's of running a Revo transmission w/ F.O.C. with a BL set-up in a Revo chassis?

What are the pro's and con's of running a beefed E-Maxx single speed transmission with a BL set-up in a Revo chassis?

I mostly would like to know about the set-up's, strength's & weaknesses. Personal preference ?? I see quite a few E-Revo's going the E-Maxx tranny route. Type of braking plays a big part too I imagine. Slippers?

I'm not really concerned with the battery mounting/balance issue because I know they both will work well.

running the revo trans will save some $ because most have one with there revo, with the rc-monster motor mount and the trans locked in second , and batterys on the other side it is pretty well balanced if lipos are used, the revo spec slipper is the best option of the two, lower center of gravity, usually pretty light set up

the emaxx trans will have to be beefed up and you will need to get one , mounting batterys will be pretty straight forward, one on each side , slipper options are robinson racing (so-so) and the best would be a strobe slipper kit

personally i likes my stock trans. conversion better than the g3r/emaxx trans i run now, lighter and easy to work on

I actually already have both type's of (modified) transmission's. So that's not a big issue on this end.

Stock tranny works quite well, motor sits lower, uses a solid slipper, and is easier to find parts since you use more stock parts. You also have several options for two speed use depending on what you want. My first Revo used a maxx tranny and I didn't like it as much. The only weak spot I've seen is the little pins that hold the gears to the shafts inside. But a little modding and the use of Jato pins instead fixed that and haven't had issues since.

Are you talking Revo transmission above?
I dont want to confuse it with the input shaft on the e-maxx tranny.

I hadnt thought about the lower center of gravity issue. That's definately a plus.

Doug, what do you mean by " beefed up E-Maxx Tranny " what should we do to beef up a E-maxx tranny?

I'am to build my e-revo with stock revo tranny, and use the 2 speed with the FOC.
My motor will be a feigao 12L runing on 4s li-po with the MM controller.

I do the Jato ppin mod on the tranny and use RD racing aluminium diff cup.

Gear 18/38 with wide ratio and proline badland MT tires.

The only thing that i don't trust on my setup is the fact that i'll keep the 2 speed. Don't know if the pin in the second speed gear will hold the brushless power when the tranny shift in secong gear. I'll run with a loose sliper, but as soon as the 2 speed will break, i'll:

-Put the Robinson racing hardened steel tranny gear OR
-Lock the tranny in second gear and order a feigao 9XL motor.

Both option cost about the same $$$

They have 2 gear in the tranny who hold on the shaft by a little pin, and this pin break easily with powerfull motors.
By using the larger jato outdrive pin (the one holding the yoke to the diff output), this solve this breaking problem, but you have to enlarge the hole on the shaft and the one on the gear. Not a big deal.

So when I open the Emaxx tranny I'll see this pin on the shaft through the gear? just drill it out to a larger size and put in a larger pin?

Basically going single speed and replacing the stock idler gear. Pin mod the e-maxx input shaft.
