Anyone converted a mugen mrx4 or mrx5?

The bearing size is 10x6x12mm for these cars i looked for a while for a bushing this size with no luck and then i was forced to make them but now i have options so tomorrow ill have some bushings made. I will be thread locking the bushings then drilling then tapping and ending with a grub to lock the wheels.

I recommend you protect the lipos with a aluminum plate or a hard plastic ....... if you have a bad crash is possible have a disaster :p

With this kind of car it's like riding a motorcycle it's risky,dangerous, but i fully understand what i'm doin and i wish lipo were not so dangerous but no pain no gain !

What gearing you guys do? Rc monster has a 46 spur for gt cars. I will use either a 2250kv motor or 2700kv motor. Wat pinion u guys recommend?

Is one of those motors in the last pic much fatter than the other or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?????

I had a machinist press a fitting inside the hub which in turn eliminated the one way bearing and allows me reverse and motor bakes. Eventually I am going to eliminate the AL bottom battery brace and replace it with carbon fiber...

I am running a 1800kv on 6s and it flies...haven't quite dialed in the esc for a little drag brake, motor brakes yet but working on it. The first time I took it out I almost totaled the car..missed a concrete light stanchion by inches doing 50mph+ This is my first true on road car as it has a learning curve as I only have been running in the dirt

Thanks for that pics guys. This is going to help immensely with my Serpent 960 conversion I think I am going to do the batteries the same way as you did magman. I hope I can get some 4-5mm thick carbon fiber plate and make like a wide pan chassis so that the batteries can fit on the sides of the chassis. I think that would be the neatest and easiest solution (posibly the lightest as well). Do you guys think that 5mm thick carbon fiber would be ok for the main chassis (bare in mind it will be a lot wider and hold the lipos on the sides)???? Once again thanks the pictures. Great help.

Rcm make a 1 speed spur for 6mm shaft. I am getting that for my mrx2

Magman is running a CC1512 1800kv. The shorter can size in a small space does play tricks on your eyes a bit.

Also If and I mean If I decide to keep it as a two speed what are the gears I need to get. I an totally a noob when it comes to this kind of two speed setup. I think I will get one either way just to try and see. I might like the two speed but I just like the simplicity of running just one pinion and one spur gear. Less moving parts the more I like it.

I am going to make up a mount that I think will even house a 1518 (from what I can measure it should). I am not sure if I'll use the 1518 on it but if I do it will have to be on 8S. That will mean a plane ESC (to keep the costs down) and will need to run mech. brakes (I think I have even this figured out).

What is troubling me now is the absence of front braking. Actually scares the crap out of me. I really want to run front brakes but that means locking up the font axle. How would this make the car handle? I wont be racing it as I just want something fast and fun but don't want something that corners like a drunk pig. Wish that there was a front diff option.

OK, that's what I was thinking. The next motor in size up (diameter wise) is the 1717 and that would be just plain crazy in one of these things.

I think I will be able to make that work easily. Just not sure about the spur size. Worried it might be too small. I want the option of running the mechanical brakes so not sure how big of a pinion I would have to run to get the gears to mesh and motor to clear the brake disc. Will have to do some more measuring. Unfortunately the pair of one way bearings seem to be the front diff. Personally I'd rather have the 4 wheel braking, so I'd set it up that way and see what happens. It might turn pretty good, and shifting more weight up front will help the car turn better too.
