That sounds like a good idea. Less weight than a tranny and you could use the slipperential. I haven't looked at the truck to see if it would work but instead of mounting the motor over the diff could you cut a hole in the top chassis plate and mount the motor beside the diff?
I had a quick look at Brian's calc. The pinion would need to be
much smaller, 11-12t.
