ah......that would explain the extreme torque and not so 57mph top speed, but should i keep it in 1st? my gearing is very high (66t spur 21t (i think) pinion)

i would go in the opposite direction and lock it in 2nd, but gear down. waaaaaaay down. i found novak's recommendation of 70/12 or 70/13 tops (on 7 cells) to be about perfect at keeping motor, esc and battery temps all within the right range. with your gearing, i'm really surprised it hasn't thermalled yet. :036:

Do you have any pics of your set-up? RTR weight?
My Gmaxx weighs in at 12.5lbs RTR, so I had to lock it into 1st gear and I use 17/66 gearing (about 30:1 overall). Its the price we have to pay for using the HVMaxx system I guess in a heavier than stock truck.

Clodmaxx- how much did your maxx weigh RTR with the 6.5 you were using/gearing?

i only have an exact weight sans batteries - 9lbs 7.5oz. i believe i weighed my 7 cell ni-mh packs at around 1.25lbs, so around 12lbs RTR.

with 70/12 gearing, and about 75 degree ambient temps running in grass and dirt, the motor and esc temps were at ~130 degrees, batts were around 90 degrees.

Wow, that sounds pretty respectable- did you use 2nd gear mainly- aprox speeds? I'm liking the 6.5 motor as a possible replcement for my original 4400 version....

unfortunately i didn't have a chance to get speeds, but due to the low gearing (i have my tranny locked in 2nd) i would guess low to mid 30's. i did clock it one time last fall at just over 38 mph, but that was at 70/15 on 7 cells in 2nd gear...with a lot less aluminum than i have now, lol.

mine technically isn't a 6.5 - i have the 4400 motor with the 6.5 sintered rotor. that new rotor is a pretty noticable improvement - mainly at keeping temps down.
