Sand paper tends to wear off the backing fast, and is not that great on steel, I figured that the grinding wheel material(stoone-like substance) would work the best. As it wears new abrasive is exposed, and it should wear evenly, to keep the shaft diameter the same along its length.

What about a whet stone used for sharpening knives? If you could clamp down the motor to hold it perfectly still, then use the whet stone pressed lightly against the shaft; since the stone is flat on every surface it will gradually grind down the motor shaft nice & evenly as it spins.

i was mounting my kb motor and noticed the outside spun a little and it came right apart. your's must be glued or something. i'm starting to get frustrated with the whole pinion gear situation. my lhs's don't have anything to work with and i'm tired of waiting for shipping on stuff.

are you mounting yours to a emaxx trans? stock mount or the single mount?

Another guy I know has a similar motor (rebadged), and his front endbell also came apart easily. Of course when I want mine to be that way, it isn't . Oh well.

The motor is going in a custom Savage conversion.

I was able to modify the motor plate I originally made to accept the larger 30mm mounting pattern (normal 540 motors have a 25mm mounting pattern) and the 4mm screws.

Just like the title of this thread says, THIS MOTOR IS A BEAST! Power/torque is incredible, to say the least. I was just out driving my Savage with the 10XL (1200 kv) on 10s2p A123 (yep, 20 A123 cells!), HV-110, and 20/46 gearing (center diff, no transmission). Tires are HPI Phaltlines. Theoretically this setup should give me approximately 70mph.

The way I was driving was definitely stressing everything on the truck. The ESC was actually cutting the throttle when I was trying to wheelie, probably because the current was too high. And, I'm sure the current was too high: the HV-110 BURNED, and actually was on fire for a second or two. When I hit it with my temp gun, it was 190* F at the heatsinks. The motor was 155*, and the batteries about 88*. I also managed to strip out a metal give in my cheap Bluebird BMS-620mg, so I lost braking. And of course the cheap Towerpro 995mg steering servo wasn't holding up its end of the bargain (the steering was very slow). Overall it was quite a disappointment, but now I know what I need for a good truck.

i noticed my motor was easy to come apart, and the resistance when spinning the motor shaft would go up as i tighten the can all the way up. i also noticed on the inside there were two washers(shimms) on the front side and none on the back side. i hooked everything up tonight just to make sure i didn't get any DOA and noticed some electronic beeping coming from the motor. could this be resistance from what i mentioned earlier? also i noticed i needed a bit of throtle to get the motor to start spinning. i'm worried that i need to adjust something inorder to reduce friction and burning more amps and my motor. its hooked up to a bk9920 on 5s2p of a123's.

Hmm it seems that the motor pulls 100+ Amps even with 33V. Seriously, someone should try it with the big Schulze or Kontronik Power Jazz.

This motor is is soo huge and should be used for converting pocketbikes or 1:5th scalers like the HPI 5B to brushless, lol

well, i moved the shims around and the motor seems to move more freely. i put one of the shims on the rear part of the shaft. is it normal operation with a bk speed controller to have electronic noise through the motor? sounds like beeps and various fq's depending on throtle position.

The 9920 does make "musical" noises. As far as I know, that's just the ESC changing the drive frequency as RPMs change.
