I tried my E maxx on 5S yesterday. It ran GREAT. Lots of power and temps were ok. Well at least for the first half of the pack.

Then the motor began to get hot. The longer I ran it, the hotter it got. It got hot enough I couldn't hold my hand on it, and at one point I could even smell it. UH OH.

I really like this setup on 5S. I noticed the motor mount gets as hot as the motor does. Being aluminum, it is pulling heat from the motor and also the slipper clutch assembly.

Here's my attempt at additional cooling. 2 - 25mm 5v fans @ 1.3cfm each. I will power this with 6 volt off the CC BEC.

very smart.

if it works.

would gearing it diff help with the heat issues?

or is it just too much volts for the motor?

Hey sike, looks interesting. I had an issue with my hacker maxx today, blew out one front driveshaft. So it was technically rear wheel drve only. Not as much fun, but it did lower my motor temps at least 15 deg, maybe more.

Not sure if that info is useful or not. It would be nice to have a servo selectable 4wd, I do not need 4wd all of the time, but it is nice to have sometimes. I wonder how we could do that with the new emaxx tranny? Spilit the output shaft and make some sort of sliding coupler?

Hi T maxx,

Well thanks.

Ummm, yes and yes. LOL This motor isn't rated for this many volts, But I feel like 5S is right at the limit for this setup. By providing some additional cooling, I hope to swing temps back the other way.

I could gear down, but things are in the fun zone now! LOL

This setup rocks on 4S with temps staying in check, but is even better on 5S.

Now that's an interesting proposal. I've never really thought about it.

Hmmm,........I wonder if there's a way to split the tranny output shaft, drill each half for a pin to keep the two running true. Then use a shift fork to Engage/Disengage the front end through the remote?

Let me think about this. LOL

Fast running on smooth surfaces does not really require 4wd. I have an old emaxx that is 2wd and is super fun to bash with. It does tricks well and will wheely till the batteries die. Plus I get better run time than with 4wd on the smae batteries, and I can use a l can motor instead of an xl and it will stay cool.

Well I got the fans all hooked up to the BEC.

I'll try it again tomorrow on 5S if the weather works with me here.

The best way you could probably do the RWD/4WD would be just like how they add front dig to crawlers. Just gotta figure out a way to make it stand up to the power. RCCA had a article about how to add front dig in a issue a while back.

Why not use these? http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=259-1325-ND They are pricey at $11.42 but they put out 3.5cfm which would triple what you have now...


If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

I was thinking a similar idea, just inside the tranny. The gear set would have to be mored to the rear, to facilitate room to place the disconncetor for the front drive. My only issue with that is that the front diff will be rotating the entire time, connected or not to the tranny. Some sort of disconnect at the wheel hub would be good as well, but would be a bit too much on a rc vehicle. I may disassemble the emaxx tranny and see if this would be feasable.
