Well, I just flip the tire inside out, and then measure off (by rolling) how much tape I need. I cut a piece to that length, lay it sticky side up (duh!) on a flat surface. I get the tire aligned with the tape, and slowly roll it down the tape. I aim for about a 1/2" overlap of tape at the end, to not throw the tire off balance (although I admit the bigger tires are less sensitive.) After it's all on, I just roll it back and forth on the same hard surface to make sure everything is bonded. Flip the tire back and there ya go, perfect tire. I've never really deformed a tire doing it this way. Maybe I'm special?

Kinda doubt it!
