Neu finned vs smooth temps?

Hi guys. I'd appreciate any advice/opinions on the heat dissipation advantage of a finned neu motor (such as 1515 1y) over the smooth can. Specifically is the advantage great enough to override the gearing limitations when used in a 3905 e-maxx. I also read on another post that the mounting holes on the smooth cans are not "standard" as they are on the finned version. Is that true?
