The "R" is the newer fancy one isn't it?

My Spektrum DX-3.0 came with 2 receivers and 2 servos.

Correct. Their promotion only applies if one purchases a radio system and a separate Rx also. If one were to buy the DX3R and another Rx, one could mail in the rebate form for a free Rx of the same kind as the extra Rx that was purchased.

I thought I read you only had to buy a receiver to get the rebate. I had thought about buying just a receiver to take advantage of the offer since I can't afford the remote yet and buy it later...

No, you have to buy a radio system and an extra Rx to get a free Rx.
