That is a great controller, I have last years model and yes I’m required to run an external BEC, you do not need one your is IE (plug and play) lucky guy!.. You will need to program it to your radio and then setup the ESC. thou.. Good luck with that one.. if you get stuck along the way PM with questions or comments and try to help where I can or search the forum, we have loads of threads on how to program it either by computer or radio system..
