As a direct response to the thread title: This is a classic example of Darwin's theory.

If other manufacturers can't keep up, they will eventually cease to exist. Survival of the fittest. I don't think there can be such a thing as a "monopoly". If there are no competitors, that's it. Period. No sense in penalizing a manufacturer for being the best and/or only one.
