Newbie needs help with brushless e revo setup - 11.23.2008, 04:48 PM

hey guys. my first post on this forum. im looking to get a brushless setup for my e revo. problem im having is deciding on which motor/esc combo would suit me best and thought i would probe your expertise for some advice.

basically, i already have a pair of 2s 4900mah 25c lipos so will initially be sticking with 4s. to be honest, i dont really see a need to ever go 6s if i am happy with the performance i get from 4s.
i am after a big increase in torque and top speed from whatever setup i get. i dont race and will be using just for bashing

so far, im leaning towards getting one of the neu motors with a mamba monster esc. have a few questions?

1. cant decide whether to go with a 1512 or 1515. not sure on why id pick one over the other

2. what are the advantages of 6s over 4s. surely with the right motor choice and gearing i could achieve similar speeds to those with a 6s. is it worth the extra breakages etc associated with the power of 6s.

3. im not sure of which 1512/1515 would be the best choice. any thoughts and why.

4. any suggestions on the setup youd recommend

i really appreciate your time and help everyone.
thanks

You would want the 1515. The 1512 would be to small for the Revo.

The difference b/t 4 and 6s would be the top speeds. On 4 s you will see a big difference in top speeds vs. stock.

Most people get the 1y, 1.5y or the 2.5d. I think it depends on the batteries you intend on using.

I am getting the MMM castle Nue combo whenever it is sent out. It is a 1y motor.

(I am new to the electrics, but am learning quick)

On 4s Your best bet would def be the MMM combo with the 2200kv 1515 1y motor. If your in a hurry and don't want to wait for the combo to come out get a Tekno Neu 1515 1y and a MMM.

X2....do not get the 2.5D to run on 4S. For 4S, you need to stay in the upper 2XXX KV range.

Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

Actually the 2.5d isn't that bad on 4s. I ran mine on 4s for a couple months before stepping up the voltage. It doesn't have crazy amounts of power but will gear up to run close to 40MPH as long as you have good batteries. I raced at the bash with the 2.5d on 4s. I wasn't that far off from everyone else's pace. Plenty of power to clear the triple, just lacked a little top end on the long front stretch.

so why 1515 over the 1512 for the e revo. lots of people seem to have success with the 1512 in e revo.
and which 1515 would you guys recommend. if i were to get the 1y, what kind of speeds could i expect on 4s?

I don't think I've seen anyone running a 1512 in an E-REVO! It's a smaller motor better suited to the lighter 1/8th buggies. The truggys and MTs are a better match for a 1515. With a 1515 1Y you can easily get 40MPH on 4s, trying to go faster will most likely result in higher temps for your esc, motor, and batteries.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=abaVZ7dCBDc this guys seems very happy with his 1512 setup?

so why should i not get one of the higher kv rated 1515 motors. lets assume for now that i will only ever be running 4s

I have the tekno neu 1515 1y with a MMM esc and its an awesome motor for 4s, just get some decsent batteries, i love my polyquests but they are only 5000mAh, you can fit up to 8000mAH 2s batts in there if you wanted to

I have seen guys on here run the 1512 in the e-revo, but they are usually being run in light weight trucks set up for racing. for general bashing i would go for the 1515 series.

Depends on weight of the truck.
I run the 1512 and have for a while.
It is a great little motor.

Peace!

I would go with the 1y 1515. I have the 2.5d and it is quick on 4s, but like previously stated you not going to have as much top speed as the 1y.

Go Here and use the speed calculator: http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/index.html

You can evaluate a motor based on the number of rpm's it will turn with a certain voltage. You will see that with a 1515 1y compared to a 1515 2.5D on 4S, you will get much better rpms out of the 1y. Why? I cant really tell you - one of our resident experts can weigh in on that. You can also compare other motors as well on there. All I know for sure is that you want to stay in the upper 30K to mid 40K rpms.
Like others have said, the 1512 can work in a Revo, but unless you've got it at the minimum weight, you're better off getting a 1515 series. It will be much more efficient.

combos aren't out yet, though they will be soon. I bought my Teckno Neu from Impaktrc, think i paid around $260, like i said before its a great motor and has tons of power on 4s. I can gear it for 40-45 and still have the power to do a standing backflip!!!!!

i dont really understand why the combos are so reasonably priced. i mean, you get the motor and esc for unfer $300 while you payed nearly that for a similar motor. what am i missing. im tempted to just get the 2 seperately because i dont know how mych longer i can wait
