You're right, the bottom plate should prevent that issue pretty much- I think Hoov discovered it just leaves a little light smoke damage around the edges of the plate; some unfortunate member of the idiot forum wasnt so lucky and suffered some damage to his lipos as his esc was stuck to the chassis directly...
