Shorted MMM on Heatsink

Ok, I know it has been debated if we can cause a short if one of the ESC bullets hit the heatsink. Well, I say we can because it happened to me. I went to the track to practice on Friday and sure enough a huge spark lit up the body of my car. Pulled the car in off the track and a good 20% of one of my bullets (ESC side) was completely blown off/melted by the short. It definitely touched the heat sink.

I will post pics a little bit later.

The good news is that this v3 has been working absolutely flawless, so no knock. I have lost count of the races and practice packs. It survived the short and I raced with it today with no problems. Even the fan is still working, but it never comes on...

Sending it back to Castle tomorrow so they can take a look at it.

My V2 the same, but a bit luckier. The short just destroyed my Deans plug and that's it. easier to be replaced than the bullet on board.

I believe in what you're saying but if the manufacturer is telling everyone that this is not possible, what can you say .

IIRC they didn't say that it can't happen just that it won't damage the esc if it does.

Believe me, I understand, and I'm not upset about it at all. I just think you should give it a chance. We've engineered it pretty well, and we are pretty confident that the bullets work. The bullets actually allow us to build to demand (which we haven't been able to do with the Mamba Max -- because of the amount of hand-work required for soldering...) so that EVERYONE can get (and afford!) a MMM. (AND -- the difference between the gap on your monster was a minor issue in manufacturing. [B]We have changed the fixtures for the Monster Max to center the heat sink better between the posts. BUT -- it won't cause a problem...)[/B]

OH -- and BTW -- yes, you can lengthen the switch wire on your V3. We actually made a hardware change so that high resistance or inductance on the switch wire wouldn't hurt the BEC from V2 to V3.

What we are trying to prevent is the fact that people are jamming screwdrivers into the slots on the case and breaking parts off the circuit boards, and ripping wires off circuit boards trying to "fix" issues that don't even exist. 80% of the V3 failures we have seen here at Castle on the V3s have been people who are freaked out about WHAT THEY HAVE READ HERE and have decided to implement a "fix" (for something which isn't a problem) and ended up damaging the boards.

If you are careful and open the case correctly, we don't have a problem with it. But we are reserving the right to DENY fixing under warranty if you are careless and damage the board by jamming a screwdriver into the case slots and destroy parts.

AGAIN, and I have said this like FIVE TIMES already -- there is no problem with the bullets and the heat sink. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BULLETS and the HEAT SINK. DO I NEED TO SAY IT AGAIN???

AND so far we haven't seen any problem with the fan and wires on the new case either -- not a SINGLE case of wires even rubbing in the new cases-- but we have had 8 people destroy Monsters trying to "fix" the fan wire "problem" because of what they have read here in this forum.

SO -- don't open your case just 'cause you want to. You might break something.
