I'm setting up my speed buggy with a MM, which has that 5 volt internal BEC. Only thing is I want 6 volts to keep my servo speed up so my gyro setup works as well as possible. I got a CCBEC already, but I neglected to notice that I would need that CClink thing to actually set it to 6 volts. So more parts required...

I read though the forums and it seems that there was some sort of issues with the CCBEC's breaking and allowing full battery voltage to the rx when this happens, scary (man I wish I researched this more, lol). So I'm now thinking about the Novak HV UBEC, 6 volts, and roughly the same price as a CClink to get the needed 6 volts. Seems to have a nice big cap on it to kill noise as well. Funny thing, Tower emailed me a $20 off $50 coupon, just in time for this

What's the word on these BEC's? Good, Bad?

The ccbec is fine. If you mount it right I doubt you will have any problems. I have 2 on my rig 1 for servos and one for fans and led's one at 6v and 1 at 9 volts

When a switching BEC fails it will let the full voltage through. Its the same for the CCBEC or the Novak BEC or any other switching bec.

There are many ways to fail. if the MOSFET get shorted, the situation you described will happen, but if the MOSFET get broken(none conductive), the BEC will output 0V.

What version on MMM do you have? The V1 I have is 5v bec ouput but the V2 and V3 both show 6v output when I test it with a meter. If you have a newer MMM its putting out 6v even though the specs say 5v. You probably dont even need the external BEC if you are only looking for 6v.

if you are concerned about a BEC failing the only way is to use a RX pack. The Heli guys use a 2s lipo pack with a voltage regulator

If using a seperate rx pack is not desired, you can do a hybrid system. Use any switching BEC to bring down the battery voltage to 7-7.5v, and then use a linear regulator to take care of that extra 1-1.5v. Wouldn't be the best efficiency-wise, but better than using a linear regulator solely, or dealing with a possible BEC failure...

Good idea, that also results in lowest possible switching noise, very clean BEC output.
