4s2p lipos? - 02.04.2009, 05:50 PM

Does anyone make a 4s2p lipo pack? Or in other words a 4s pack only broken up like a saddle pack? I am running my E-Maxx on lipos now but charging two 2s packs is getting to really be a pain. So does anyone know of a good battery company that makes what I am looking for?

You could make an adapter to charge your 2 2s lipos as a 4s lipo, as long as your charger can handle 4s lipo. Not difficult, post a pic of the batteries, and a close up of the balance plugs. Brian's site can give you a wiring diagram to do it as well.

As far as a 4s pack broken up into 2 2s packs but factory wired as a 4s pack... I have never seen one. It would be easy enough to make a 4s pack into what you want, but I would need the chassis to get wire lengths correct.

A 4s2p pack has 8 cells total, 4 pairs of paralled cells that are arranged in series to achieve 4s. Probably not what you are looking for.

I could wire the lipos permanently to run as a 4s pack, but still be seperate to fit in the emaxx. I would say that an adapter harness to charge them and still have the packs seperate would be a better idea. That is what i do with my trakpower hardcase lipos, I run them in sereis for 4s, and charge them in series too as 4s. That way all of the cells are balanced together, and the charge is faster.

Most likely, what kind of packs do you have?

Most of those packs have hyperion taps. I can make something that will work.

On a semi-related note. I want to verify that I can wire a 4x 2s1p packs to get 2 2s2p packs. I think I end up with the same number of cells, 8, but want to make sure I do it right.

Also, anything I need to know to solder LiPos? The only reason I ask is that I found some cheap Chinese packs on e-bay and they are 2s1p. They are only 10c but I will be running them in a Summit with a deWalt 14.4v motor.

Yep, you can do that. Honestly, I would just use the output leads to wire them up. Take 2 packs and solder the pos leads together, do the same with the neg wires. Ten you have a 2s2p pack. Repeat with the other 2 packs and you will have 2 2s2p packs. Then make a series adapter out of deans, or if you plan to use the stock evx2 just plug one 2s2p pack in each plug on the evx.

That way you do not have to solder directly to the lipo, over remove the shrink. Just tape or shrink the packs together.

I think I may have to disassemble the packs for two reasons. One is QA and the other is to ensure that they will fit inside the battery bays.

Stupid battery bays. I hate them and their ability to limit my battery buying options.
