setup for crt.5??? - 03.29.2009, 06:43 PM

hey,

my setup right now is a 7l motor powered by a 2s lipo , the setup ran very hot and i got only 8-9 min of runtime , im looking for a better setup , the pinion gears i have r 12,17,18 wth stock spur , and i moved the motor to the front and now i have to use 2 small ipo packs in the rear im using the rcm extended chassis , should i get 1)a medusa 36-50-1600 with 18t pinion and 2 small 4s batteries wired in parallel,, 2)a medusa 36-50-1600 with 18t pinion and 2 small 2s lipoes wired in series , or 3) use the 7l motor i have and 2 3s lipos wired in parallel????

i want my runtime to be about 15+ min and for the setup to run cool , im using the mm esc with a ubec ,, so wat motor and battery should i get >?????

thnks

I have 2 crt.5...

1. mm esc w/a Medusa 50 series 3300kv on 2s 5000mah li-po

2. mm esc/ w/a ccbec and a 1509 3300kv on 3s 4000mah li-po

The 3s is a lot faster...no surprise there...the 2s is fast as well, so it really depends on how fast you want to go and your budget. The 1509 runs cooler and is a better motor, but is $85- more

1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

well i want the crt.5 to go about 40+ mph but have about 15+ min of runtime, right now with my setup the crt.5 goes about 30moh and gets really hot and i get 8 min of runtime with a 2s 4000 mah , now i cant use regular lipo packs that are made for rc cars because i moved the motor forward (now the motor is on the opposite side of the servo) , now i need o know what setup should i go with right now i think i m8 go with the medusa 36-50-1600kv but i dont know whether to run 2 small 4s lipos in parallel or 2 small 2s lipos in series ???

When I had my CRT.5 my setup was a Feigao 9L finned can, MM with CCBEC, 3s 4000mah 20C Lipo, with a 14t pinion. It would do about 45mph on 2.2 truck tires, and temps were a bit hot at 140-160 on MM and motor, but this was an awesome setup that could run for about 15mins.

I'm running the RCM chassis, MM, Medusa 50x3300, 3S 4000. I easily get 15-20min, but mostly drive an indoor track. I think I'd still get 15min even doing mostly speed runs. Motor temps are cool, but MM gets to 150F.

Put a BEC and extra cap on your MM and you'll drop your temps 20+ deg...

from wat i see is that most of u run medusa 36-50-3300 on 3s m, so ive posted a pic of my crt.5 , wat would be the best setup for it ,

should i go with 4s or 3s ??

2 4s in parallel and medusa 36-50-1600kv

or

2 3s lipo in parallel and keep my 7l motor or get a medusa 3300

which will be a better setup for cool temps , about 40mph speed , and 15+ min runtime??????

I would agree, and might do that if my esc ever thermals. However, a big part of why I like e-conversions is simplicity. I perfer my setups to be as clean as possible. All those extra wires drive me crazy. I guess I hate extra wires the way Brian hates fans. Hopefully the new MM Pro will solve my problems.

lol, I hate extra wires too. That's why I modify the throttle cable on my MMs. I remove the red and black wires from the ESC PCB, then solder a red and black wire to the power input points on the ESC. I bundle those three wires to the bec. The red and black feed the input of the BEC. Since the output of the BEC typically has a servo plug, I just insert the throttle wire into the empty slot. When done, you have the ESC, three wires going to the BEC, three wires out of the BEC to the Rx with the UBEC in the middle somewhere.

For 4S I have the 2200 50mm medusa. Easily 40mph, closer to 50. That 7L motor is pretty crappy and hot.

I have a 4s 2100 batt and get a long time bashing. I know I've done at least 10min on the track, but its not really a track car, so I can't promise you those runtimes.

Neu also has 4S 2500 batts as well. Flydma has some for way cheap. I would have a hard time seeing you not get 15+min on those @ 40mph top speed. Mike's batts are 2500 cells as well, tho he usually sells them as 2p. a 4s1p pack of those would smoke as well and get power and runtime. Not sure what the dimensions are, but I'm sure they can be made to fit. 110mm packs fit nicely on the chassis.

i m8 get a couple of zippy or rhino lipos

but should i get a medusa 50 mm 1600 kv or medusa 2200 , because i already have a 18 teeth pinion and i want to use it ,

now , should i keep the setup ( shown in the pics above) and use 2 4s in parallel or should i return it like stock and use 1 2150-2200 mah 4s 20c pack ??

I understand you want to use your 18T pinion, but I wouldn't let a $10 pinion determine which $105 motor I buy. I really like my 3300 on 3S (12T - 14T pinions) and to be close to that in speed and power on 4S would be the 2200. The 1600 seems ideal for at least a 5S or even a 6S system.
