Could a CC Sidewinder handle this motor? - 06.06.2009, 09:54 AM

Looking at an ESC for my Slash, got this cheapy motor for now:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6530

And will put in an identical spec Medusa when funds permit.

On 2s/ 3s would the Sidewinder handle it or should I go the Hobbywing 80A

It would do ok on 2s, but you may need a ext. bec for 3s

With your motor you could get a $5 external bec while you're at hobbycity.

While the sidewinder will do fine with a bec on 3s, the hw80 is a more versatile esc and can do 4s with need of an external bec. Plus the price is very close. I do have a few sidewinders and they are great escs, and I have not tried the hw80, but it has had favorable reviews and seems to be a bit underrated on its amp handling ability.

fundamental difference. when the hobby wing smokes you throw it in the trash. when the sidewinder smokes you send it to castle.

The real question is- can that motor handle a Sidewinder? The SW is rated for ~70 continuous at 3s lipo. If the HS specs are right (?) then the SW will have NO trouble running that motor. An external BEC is ALWAYS a good idea because it takes the load off of the ESC.
