I visited Phoenix for a week several years ago for my job, and my first day there, they hadn't gotten me a rental car yet. So lunchtime comes around and everyone leaves me at the shop. I walk outside, it's hot, but I figure it's not sooo bad, so I decide to walk a couple blocks to some corner store to get something. As I'm walking, it's still hot, but I see I'm not sweating. "Hmm, not
too bad" I thought. But as soon as I walk into the air conditioned store, sweat began gushing out of every pore in my body. I felt like I stepped out of a pool (and looked like it too). That one experience was enough for me!
I tell people this story and they give me the old "oh, but it's a
dry heat" line. Makes me want to punch them in the lips.
