If it does run, it will run very slow. If running 3s or 4s, hook the fan directly to the battery. If running over 4s, you can use a linear regulator to bring down the voltage: http://rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5377

I just run my 12v fans straight off the batteries. They spin pretty quick on 6s, but it hasn't killed them. Most of the time I use 4s though, so I don't know how long they would last if I was only ever using 6s.

yup, i use 40mm 12 fans on 4s straight wired to the battery...spins very powerful. and hasnt died yet. its good to know that it will work on 6s too, because i may want to rig a fan onto that truck as well.

I have ran 40mm fans off 5s and 6s without failure, they are pretty beefy units, as stated- run it off the main battery and you will be fine.
