A MMM 2200 combo works great. Thats what I ran in my e-CRT. She ran like a champ on 4s and 5s both geared for 40mph.

Brakes all depend on your settings. You can apply different amounts of power and different curves with the MMM. So setting your brakes is a personal preferences. But I can my my 8-T do a end over end if I wanted to.

Are you talking about NiMh batteries? If so, I would gear it for around 30mph max otherwise you'll toast them more than likely. I'd definitely get some LiPo's asap. With the prices of Zippy's its hard to beat now.
