humm....i mite try that or something similar. maybe if i mounted a peice of lexan underneath the front to keep the front out of the water keeping it from hopping?

I'm afraid the boat is just too small... you have enough power to easily push a 40+ inch boat around, and still have serious speed. These projects are fun, and they will show you the practical limits of power. You did a great job, I just don't want to see you waste a lot of time and effort if it's not going to do what you want it to. I would look on ebay maybe for a deepvee hull that included controls & linkages, might be able to find one pretty cheap. I know it might sorta defeat the purpose of what you are trying to do, but if you want a performer.....

And putting the prop behind the rudder will make for even more weirdness. You can try it... but I don't think it'll steer at all

Replace the whole drive shaft with a .150 flex shaft and put a proper propellor on there and you'll be able to use much more of your power, right now you're wasting too much on cavitation.

Trade up to a real boat, like a mini Miss Buddweiser Man that would be sick with that setup. Or snag one of those old Traxxas V hulls and modify it. I'm sure you could get one of those for cheap!

hopping is called "proposing" and is caused when a submerged prop is given waayyy too much power and causes the nose to rise too far, it then walks on the prop, prop begins surface piercing and it flips over.
best bet is to move the prop further back IMO.

If he's got an adjustable outdrive or trim tabs he could also try to bury the bow better, that will keep it from porpoising as badly as well.

Similar project. My MMM system would mount right up to the stock mount I just can't see putting that much money with just a few mm of plastic seperating it from sudden death. I solute you! LOL

i think that the rpm level is too high for a flex shaft! lol it the drivetrain's not perfictly balanced, you hit the throttle and the whole thing feels like it's going to fly apart! i had to take the rubber dust boot off the shaft becouse it would try to fly off and it'd make the driveshaft out of balance.

haha, that's what i was most afraid of but after it flipped the first time, i realized that it can't get fast enough to do any real damage



I wonder if it would be posible to get like 2 of the origanal caliente boat and put them togather to give me a very long, more stable boat. the first caliente boat was longer and close to half as wide as the second one that i used

lol i've decided to take the first MMM boat i tried to build and mount it to the front of the new one to make it longer and keep it from comming out of the water. but i am afraid that it will not be able to turn well
