Hobbycity list theirs at 40C burst and MA at 60C. Sup with that? 1000 cycles. I haven't been nice enough to my A123's to reach 1000 cycles. I don't think I reached 600 cycles on one pack before it vented. I really want to know it the MA "higher" quality cells have the same voltage drop like the A123's.

The Turnigy Lifepo4 packs I have, appear to be tough as nails.

I have ran a simliar 4S2P A123 setup in a Monster Truck before.

I believe the A123's voltage drop under a load is greater than these. There's just alot more punch.

coolbeans. Good to hear the improvement. Now how hot can they get before they loose capacity.

The 1C discharge will basically tell you the real capacity the cell is at, it might be the same as the 5C, but it should be more accurate. Take your time, I'm not in a big rush .
I have around 10 cycles on the packs so far.

At 5C charge rate, I have no idea.

I did do a 1C discharge test (at 4.5 amps), it shows right at 4200mah.

Thats and understatment! That 2s1p pack you got up to like 195f I think. I remember that thing was so hot, I was impressed by the fact it worked after it cooled down. It lasted almost a year didn't it?

It seems that battery technology is moving pretty fast the last decade, at least faster than it has in a while, I hope it continues.

Yea it did last a year after it got that hot. I have another 3s1p pack that reached that kinda temp and its still in use. I only get about 1800mah out if now. My 6s1p pack has seen 170+F quite a few times and still does 2300mah. When it was new it took 2500mah.

Anyone seen the similarly sized Turnigy packs for less money than a couple movie tickets?

If Turnigy had Lifepo4 packs to fit the 1/16th Slash / Revo I'd be all over it!

Any particular reason for needing a LiFePo4? I don't buy anything from MA just on principle.

Safety is the main reason.

LiFe chemistry doesn't go into thermal runaway. The packs can still catch fire if they overheat (overcharging), but won't keep burning like magnesium and lipo does.

Precisely, safety. My Mini is what usually gets put in the boot for vacations, in the family ride thats behind where my 7 month old sits, in my "bunky" that's up against an LPG tank.

Neither are areas you want unstable packs. Also babys get into things, chew on things etc, Lipo pack + teeth?

As much as I enjoy this hobby, Safety has to be my #1 thing now, that's why the Savage Flux runs on Lifepo4 and why I want the Mini to as well.

Fastbaja5b, I'm in the same boat in terms of safety being a big concern with a small child getting into everything along with the fact I'm new to rc. What kind of setup are you using for the flux? I have the truck NIB waiting to be run when I can get some more ideas as to batteries, charger, any tray mods, run time, etc. Are you generally satisfied running liFe? Thanks.
