Making a LST2 into a Truggy

I would go with muggy diffs, and a 13t pinion. With the tire info set as Ross specified you get 41mph. Small pinions are not such a good idea, they wear fast and do not treat the spur very well. I run a 49t spur in my muggy, with a 14/15t pinion IIRC. With a 1600kv motor on 6s lipo it does well. I run std MT tires, badlands usually, on it. Keeps the weight down, and the rotational mass as well. Lighter wheels/tires are a must, especially if you plan to run the smaller capacity lipo. Also the muggy diffs will allow you gear down a bit if necessary, maybe a 12t or 11t. A larger spur would be the best bet, as it just gives more gearing flexibility.

I decided since I have so little money in this build I sprang for new chassis rails and uppers. These are a little war torn so if thing comes out working nice I'd like to to look the part as well ?

This is only mock up, Still need to counter sink holes in Lower chassis plate that I made today and do some more trimming to the upper CF plate to let the motor slide a little more over to the left. Once I decide exactly where the CD will go I will make the center axles and start bolting stuff down and start thinking about braces, not sure if I'll need them or where they'll go yet ?

Hopefully this Friday the SmartDiff and 45T plastic spur will show as well as the shock parts. Luckily I have a few sets of the Muggy diffs gears so I'll rebuild the diffs Weds with 3K Rear and 7K front. I've decide since it was to late to cancel the Muggy shocks I was go ahead and build them and install till I decide what 8ight shocks to use (I need overall measurements to compare to Muggy Shocks)

Also, need suggestions for a no frills Battery tray thats not going to take up a lot of room ? Thinking of using thin "L" angled aluminum in 1-1.5" for all 4 sides ?

If your not phased about leaving one side open on the battery tray, you can use an ali angle 2" wide and bend up each end.

I've done this on my rc8t which doesn't leave the battery exposed, it might be different with the lst.

It's the term "ALI" Angle that throws me off, I'm sure I know what your refering to.

I think some thin Aluminum "L" angled aluminum will be the ticket, It'll take up very little room and with a few velcro straps it should be all I needs.

Nice use of the diamond plate and all of the CF . You set up should be fairly light. Curious as to why the 8 shocks and not the muggy/LST..is it weight savings you are after or a performance advantage

I stuck it down with t-lock velcro and never had a problem. I made it so I could fit 12x A123's (6s2p)

IF and when I go to the 8ight shocks I will only be using 4, not 8.

And FYI, I did order a set of plastic shock bodys to compare weight and possibley reconsider running them instead. Under $8.00 for 4 NIP, might as well since they will not go bad sitting in the bag ?

Yup , we were on the same page just different lingo.
I've made several trays like this and they all have served me well, Thanks for the effort PP3310 ! OBTW, the RC8 looks great .
