Do you have a handsaw?
You could try to get a slot into the set screw and get it out with a flat head screwdriver.
Or you could try a slightly bigger torx and drive it into the striped set screw with a hammer to unscrew it.

Usually you can pry the pinion off the shaft (slide it off the front).

i had to cut my pinion gear off the shaft with a dremel. it was the only pinion gear i had besides my (now broken) rcm gear that i had just gotten that fit and wasn't worn out.

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

there is one last option that may have not been suggested, hope i'm not too late.

if you have a drill press (vertical drill, whatever) and a good one, not just a toy dremel one or a hand drill stuck in a holder one, a manly bench mounted one.

you can actually fabricate a pair of struts that sit across under the pinion and then using the drill press with an up-side-down drill in it, you can push the motor/shaft away from the pinion.
this is how i do it but i have access a lot of large machinery, a nice new lathe is comming soon, 2.5 tonns of awsomeness (spins up to 2ft diameter jobs )
