Two identical trucks have different run times - 03.16.2010, 08:38 PM

Per the title, I bought my boys two 1/16 revo for xmas. One runs just over three mins. longer on any of the batteries i have for them. What do you guys think could be the problem? The kicker is that my oldest son is the one w/the problem and he appears to drive smoother. Thanks

There may be a very small amount of binding somewhere...suspension, drive-train to cause the electronics to work harder. Or one of the motors just may be a little bit better than the other even though they are technically the same.

Are the esc settings identical as well?

There also could very possibly be a loose connection on the problem truck that is causing a slightly extra drain on the cells. It does not take much to cause this problem.

What batteries and charger are you using? Stock traxxas stuff may be suspect here.

i was getting 20 minutes of bashing on a 2200 pack in the mini vxl i had.

No not if it is only a slight resistance issue. Your only talking about a 3 minute differance. If it were ten or 15 minutes then yes there would be other evidence to stand on. 3 minutes hardly seems like something to get all wound up about IMO.

If the difference is only a few minutes and it's a binding issue, it'll be slight as well. It'll run warmer but not nessasarly thermal. Losen the motor and pull pinion away from the spur and check each wheel for freeness.
The one could have diffs fuller with grease than the other ?
As long as temps are good I wouldn't sweat it to much, keep an eye on it for any changes

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

it would depend on how much there was...A friend of mine has a 1/8 buggy like mine except mine rolls easier than his...hence, I get longer run times on the same set up.

One truck could have bearings from different lots making it roll easier for example.

They typically use stock batteries and 1600 duratrax nimh.On occasion i allow them to run my turnigy 2s 2200, or flightmax 3s 1500 lipos. They still are next to new trucks as they have spent a lot of time on my pool table sitting."SUPER WET SEASON JUST NORTH OF BALTIMORE".

Could consistent running, as you said your older son runs smoother, vs more crashing and having to constantly be right siding the little revo play a role in the shorter length of battery life. If he is running more consistent I would say that his would be the first to go than the short burst followed by a turtle car would. If that makes any sense at all.

Thats also a good point. I'm going to flip flop the motors w/out them nowing and see if there is any difference.Guess i should have thought of this before.

Well if the kids are still getting a little harsh about it just throw the lipos in and that will solve the problem of run time. Or two in parallel than they would most likely break before running to lvc.

either swap motors or just have them drive eachothers trucks and see if its the driver causing the issue.

So i flippped the motors and no difference other than my youngest boys truck seems faster. They are just running around on my paved driveway jumping a small plastic bmx ramp. Now it seems that my youngest boy is getting a real good feel for jumping w/out crashing.I checked mesh on both trucks today, and both trucks are free of any binding.Maybe ill swap esc. in the morning.Oh yeah,i landed a tripple back flip off there ramp today
