Aerials are tuned to an exact length, if you add length to it, unless it's an exact multiple of the original length you will actually reduce the range not increase it.

Hot Bodies Lightning 2 Pro carbon, Mega 22/30/2, MMM, 4s3-5Ah.
Tamiya F201 carbon, Mamba 7700, MM, 2s A123 2.3ah.
Xray XT8, 1518, MMM, 4s5Ah.
Lots of boats.

I didn't think that was the case Native, but I'll cut it back to original length and test it after I fit the new chassis anyway, thanks.

This is absolutely 100% true. Plus, some 2.4gHz systems actually have a very small piece of electrical device on the very tip of the Rx antenna, and if it gets damaged, or broken off, it has to be replaced...anyway, that's not your problem....

I currently have a Spektrum DX3.0 (RXs: SR3000s, SR300s, SR3001s, SR3300Ts, SR3500s, MRX-3000s), DX2.0 (RXs: SR3000s, SR300s, MRX-3000s), and 5 Losi 2.4gHz DSM systems (which are Spektrum radios in Losi packages [RXs: MRX-3000s, SR3000s, SR300s]), and every one of them has awesome range! The DX3.0 and 2.0 both can run the vehicle out until I can no longer see it and still be under full control. The Losi systems can run the vehicles a minimum of the 2-block length of my street with no problems, and I am positive they will go as far as my DX3.0 & 2.0 if I ever take them out to the airport.

I you are dead-set on getting rid of the Spektrum system, I say don't get any of the Airtronics 2.4gHz systems...it is my opinion, as well as my own personal experience (MX-3 2.4gHz), that they just plain suck. They won't stay bound, they have zero range, they go crazy for no reason (some sort of interference?), and caused one of my Supermaxxes to careen out of control on multiple occasions. It didn't sustain damage as bad as yours, but there was damage to the truck.

If you just have to get rid of the Spektrum system, my vote goes toward the Futaba 2.4gHz system. A few friends have various versions, mostly 3PMs & 3PKs, and they love them. My second vote, if you have the money, is one of the KO-Propo 2.4gHz systems...like it was said, they are just plain amazing! I Suggest either the EX-10 Eurus, or the EX-10 Helios, in that order!
